Calorie Calculators

Postby NotTim » Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:48 pm

I was wondering how many calories I burn on the normal commute, mainly so I can not feel guilty about getting a large smoothie from Boost Juice when I got to work this morning, so I had a bit of a hunt for a calculator to give me an idea how much I've burnt.

I've now checked with half a dozen different ones, and gotten numbers ranging from 1100 to 1500 cal, this to me seems high.

The commute is 28km, and it takes me about 1hr 10, the other number they all ask is weight, and I'm 135kg, which is going to mean I burn more then most people will, but I wouldn't have thought it would quite that hard.

Do these numbers seem to be right?

it seems to be directly proportional to exertion.

So if you are riding reasonably hard for 1 hour at 135kg, then yes you prob burn 1000 calories. This is a guess, i am also sure there are rough charts out there that will tell you roughly calories expended, taking into account; Effort (Heart Rate for more accuracy), weight, age and type of activity.
