so i'm thinking about getting back into commuting regularly and being a bit aerodynamic sure doesn't hurt

are helmets or no helmets more aero?

now i'm not talking about aero tt helmets or anything, just regular ones

Well thats an aero tt helmet... bald head would be more aero than a head of hair waving around, no idea how much though... probably a nats dick. But head alone will be quite a bit more aero than your average road helmet.

Yes a head has a smaller frontal area... but a TT helmet fills in the dip of the neck... so I am not sure if a good aero helmet ( which suits the riders position ) plus a visor is more aero than just a head. I will leave that to ALex .

I forgot my helmet one day and it took me about 10 minutes or more to realize before I turned back. Definitely felt and appeared on the computer to be faster than normal.

We probably won't find out either as I'm expecting this to be locked as soon as a mod realizes. Maybe Warthog1 can tell us. He's also got one of those funny looking things.

I did the same thing with the same results........however with me it was the panic setting in just in case the cops spotted me and I copped a fine.........my fastest trip ever getting back up the hill to home.

Might be locked... but personally I actually wonder before a ride if I am going to go and have a crack at a flat fast strava segment if I should skip the helmet. No way am I going to wear a sperm hat on a training ride . But then some of us have the choice . It is actaully a fair question... and the reason giro have come out with these.

If you don't wish to shave your head as well as your legs...........a rubber shower cap should do the trick.

Hollowed out watermelon does the trick too.

What, funny looking head or helmet

I reckon TLL is right as an aero helmet correctly worn should smooth the air flow off the back of the scone.
Then again my funny looking, clapped between two bricks head, has a pretty small frontal area, so I don't know. Plus look at those non pointy helmets Sky were wearing at the tdf this year

Yeah, it looks less high on the head, but it appears to be a Euro specific helmet as it has next to no vents. It's going to be 36 deg C here tomorrow. I couldn't wear it without having to stop to wash the sweat out of my eyes. Maybe a winter specific helmet? Probably more aero than the winter specific one below.

I didn't bother to watch too much of the TdF this year as it was so boring. The Sky train made it so. So I only watched it when I was on night shifts. I think I missed the helmets. Got a pic?
