Watched the womens race on site!
Missed the mens as the little fella wanted to go play. Fair enough really as he'd stood around not really interested for a while.

Unless they have learnt their lesson from last year I doubt the coverage of the TDU will improve. LBS at it worst was still light years better then the broadcast last year.

What was really interesting was the fact they initially did not have the big screen in the village. Having spoken to quite a few people connected with both stand holders the numbers dropped from previous years. Especially after 5pm. For the first time the Hilton stand did not make a profit. They were pissed.

Re today's racing, I enjoyed it. Cronulla's a great site for a crit and I thought the TV station did a good job.

The break did really well to stay away, and Matthews took his opportunity with aplomb.

Might head down to the Gong to watch tomorrow's races in person.

A boring course to watch as a TV spectator though I was enjoying the breakaway. Unfortunately had to headout before the last few laps so missed the finish.

Dropped in both races and DNF'ed Out of 52 entrants there was less than half that finished on Saturday. On Sunday only 13 finished, 6 of which were a lap down and that included the winner from Saturday. The wind was vicious on Saturday and ridiculous on Sunday. In the Elite woman's race one lady got blown into the barriers and went for a face plant.

A cone gets knocked in my path

I take evasive action, which puts me on the inside of the cones, ie on the wrong side of the road. The incident makes me loose momentum and I end up off the back into a head wind, while at the same time there's an attack up front making the task of getting back on even harder. 2 laps later I pulled out.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I found the Wollongong course a bit more interesting to watch as a TV spectator, it was short and probably because there wern't as many long stretched.

The effort by the 16 year old Jake was fantastic, it is hard to bridge tge gap.

I felt that it wasn't clearly explained about the bunch finishing 3 laps before the end so because a little confusing. As TV specatators we don't have the advantage of a complete picture and knowing what is going on, so it could have been better explained as the bunch group was next to the lead group (a lap down) and then had their sprint finish. The commentry obviously had to build it up but all in all I think that Channel Nine did a pretty good job in their coverage, they had plenty of camera's to cover the entire course on both days and there was still plenty of knowledge about the cyclists.

A commissaire's call and if the commentators are not in touch with the officials, then they probably were not sure of what was happening until the first bell went.

Because the race was a series, they needed to establish the lower finishing places, otherwise the lapped riders would normally be withdrawn.

I see Michael Mathews was already riding a Scott Foil yesterdy at the crits.
Thought that contracted cyclists still had to keep all their current team issue gear til Jan 1st, including the bikes?

Probably had more to do with the fact that the two main commentators were WWOS football 'experts' (based on the way they kept trying to reference back to rugby) and did not have a clue.

They should have give Kate the mike and missed the idiots

The pictures I posted have been cropped by the thread, loosing the communication about the cones. Never mind, if your keen, open the pics up in another thread.

In regards to the Wollongong thing, Crafty who was doing the on the ground commentary explained the situation exactly to the audience. The lapped bunch was following the lead bunch, but some of those lapped riders were to get some points, so they finished them 3 laps early, where they unlapped themselves on their last lap and sprinted.
