If I recall, Bike Friday made a folding family tandem/triplet.
I don't know if it is still available but if world travelling the folding aspect may be useful.

BF Tandem Two's Day. A friend of mine had one of these made up with an extra seat/chainset section to make it a triplet, so they could get both of their young sons out riding with them. But I'm not so keen on the idea of stacking up one of these with a full touring load for two (much less three) riders. It looks to me like it's going to be flex-city
Also on steep road descents, braking on those tiny wheels with two plus gear raises risks of serious rim overheating problems.
