I'm in. Gotta make hills my friend. Did Mt Nebo for the first time on the weekend and will try to go the lumpy way to work a bit more often. :oops:

Mind you it's only 100m long. Does that count as a hill. I think a true hill climb should be at least 1km long. Any shorter you could do it entirely anaerobic.

It's certainly fun to climb that's for sure. Especially when you find yourself one gear to high towards the top :P Try doing 10 repeats on it haha.

I do a kicker that is 15% average grade, 500m. I tell you what, it's a true hill climb.

My contribution is another climb, though. 2.7km, average 10.4%. I can't confirm the Strava readings of 30%+ for the last section but I have seen 28-29% displayed on old mate Garmin.

It's on Strava here: http://app.strava.com/segments/1411804" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

55km and 1080m this morning.

What's that climb up Camp Mountain off Mt Nebo road. It has to be in the 15-20 range.

My tough little local climb is the toughest I've found that I consider ridable on the road bike. The road has sections with a fair build up of loose gravel as well as rough road surface and the steepest section are concrete that has gone wavy from the concrete running down the hill before it could set. Difficult at times to maintain traction on the way up but more concerning is the roughness and loose surfaces for the downhill.

The initial kick is fairly tough, averaging 18.3% over 400m with my Garmin reading 34% on the steepest part. While that part is tough I find it's the steeper pitches later on when the legs are already stuffed that break me and I'm yet to do the whole 1.8km at 15.5% on the road bike without stopping.

The two tough ones are the Sheoak Rd out at Belair, and Coachhouse Drive > Woodland Way.

I was actually supposed to post the Coachouse - Woodland segment in my last post... just edited it for completeness. But here it is:

http://app.strava.com/segments/1411804" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The tough bit of Sheoak is only 500m long but one of the toughest pieces of road I've encountered. It's 15% average and it is an effort just to keep moving forwards. I haven't ridden anything like it.

Apart from that, my regular climbs are:

- Old Freeway, use it as a time trial 1-2 times a week.
- Waterfall Gully Rd, time trial, 1-2 times a week. Not tough but I put a lot of effort in, which makes it tough ;)
- Belair Rd, Old Belair Rd. Prefer Old Belair but it's a bit tighter with cars.
- Norton, Teringie Drive, Coachhouse>Woodlands
- Montacute
- Corkscrew
- Mt Osmond, both ways. Heading west its good to do after descending the old freeway. Heading East its a very similar climb to Corkscrew, but I think the grade is more consistent.

I've also ridden some real good tough roads out Clarendon way but they aren't in the usual reportoir. I live near Cross Rd so I tend to hit the nearby climbs during the week, longer and more adventurous on the weekend.

What climbs do you frequent?

Thanks for the info Boss.

I ride pretty similar routes, this is my strava so you can see where I go. http://app.strava.com/athletes/228328" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have not been up Sheoak or Woodland for a while. Crit racing finishes this Wednesday and then I will revisit a few of these climbs and see what sort of time I can set. I like Montacute Rd and go up the Gorge quite often and then Fox Creek rd or others around that area. I use Norton summit for recovery rides as it is a shallow gradient and you get a great view. Might see you on the road, I ride a black Daccordi and wear either Clipsal or Norwood Parade kit.

I don't know about 1km hills being able to be done entirely anaerobically, the steepest hills would be taken at about say 15km or less, a 1km hill at this pace would take 4 minutes, I'm pretty sure the anaerobic stage runs out before then, is it about 1 minute for trained athletes? Having said that there are some stupid segments in Strava like this one http://app.strava.com/segments/2534308, its actually a very tight left right left switchback climb and has nothing to do with fitness per se, also it is under a bridge so anybody going over the top gets a pretty quick time. For me a good Strava segment has an easy to find start and on the road is a test of fitness and/or power, mtb would be a bit different, I hate the ones that finish at major intersections. Here's one I created myself that I'm quite happy with http://app.strava.com/segments/3385810, I'll get that KOM back one day, did it on the cross bike so I don't see any problem making up the 0.8kmh I'm short.

1088m in 39km this morning :) Regretting it a bit because my legs hadn't fully recovered from the previous ride so I've probably un-trained them.

Back onto steep pinches, here's another local one. It's not as steep as the previous segment I posted but still brutal.

I find the high potassium intake really keeps the sodium retention down and lets me high high watts per kg numbers on my power meters.

This is the STEEPEST climb over 2k in Australian suburbia. I need all the potassium I can get to keep in site of those 20 year old AIS kidz!

Wasn't feeling quite 100% this morning, light to moderate south-easterly (headwind) but pushed really hard and PR'ed the old freeway (9-ish k's, 5%-ish grade).

I was actually kinda suprised I did so well when I looked down at my timer at the top!

This morning was 46.6km and 874m. Good little ride.

A couple of times up Mt Gravatt this morning. First time doing a repeat. First was easy, second felt like the first time I did the climb all those months ago.

Maybe could of squeezed out a 3rd, but ran out of time on the commute.

Training now for this ride in a few weeks - 114.62kms with 1584m climbing
Tamborine Village - Eagle Heights - Canungra - O'Reilly's - Canaungra - Tamborine Village (via the flat)
