I've finally bought a Garmin Edge 500, so I'm aiming for 40,000M in the 11 months remaining also reduced my original km target as I'm using my new CX bike and the off road terrain I'm tackling on it is dropping the average way down.

Was ill most of last week and only on the bike for the first time in 7 days this morning. Falling well behind after tracking my goals nicely beforehand.
Time for some repeats this week to bring me back on target.

42km & 700m this morning, 20km & 200m at lunch.

Took 23 seconds off my tollgate -> bollards time this morning (now 27:17) and within 11 seconds of my best time on Waterfall gulley road... and it was raining!

Feeling really good at the moment, times are starting to get really fast and really consistent. If I keep going like this I'm going to have to revise some of my goals for 2013!

Haven't done a really punishing long climb ride for a few weeks though. Might have to work out a crazy route for this Sunday.

Finally managed to get a long ride in today. 101km with 1300m of ascent. They just re-opened the Belthorpe Range rd. after closing it due to damage from the SEQ Jan. 2011 floods. Super steep in sections. Strava reckons 35%. I don’t know if it’s that steep but there was a lot of rear wheel slip on the rain effected new surface. Definitely one of the harder climbs on the north side of Brisbane with an average of 8.3% over 4.6km.

The AAC helped make January my best month of climbing yet and to get the year off to a good start with 13005m done. Only 86995 to go :)

Nice effort!! I believe that road is basically the worst in qld, and is the only road with a curfew for cars so that school buses can use it without any chance of meeting another vehicle (after a fatal school bus accident way back). Some of the other roads I've seen around there were super steep and scary, and I've been assured that Belthorpe Range rd is much worse, by locals who live up there at Belthorpe.

Mt Gravatt in the morning, Mt Coot-Tha in the evening. About 50km and 1000m for the day has brought me back on target. Now just to keep it there.

I'm thinking i might just check that out by car before going for a ride up there...

Hmmm... 12,000 behind and that will only keep growing as the temps are going to plummet again :| .
Hopefully June / July can make up for it... 5 days in Corsica, Maddonna del Ghisallo, Passo dello Stelvio, Galibier, Alpe D'Huez ... going to be a tough few weeks of work  .

My knee has packed it in... Not entirely related to riding but taking the rest of the week off. Hating it.

Very sorry TLL - definitely not intended mate.

I've got to say I'm impressed by the number of metres climbed by this group. I'm merely trying for 1000 per week, and building up a bit now because I know I'll be trapped at a constant elevation a few metres above sea level starting early March for a few weeks (the missus arranged a cruise). She's warming to the idea of driving a camper round some hilly bits of France next year though.

That's right TLL, rub it in. :D I've cracked 40,000 but have a few week of crits left now so the climbing will slow down a bit. Need to be over 100k before winter or it will be hard to get there.

You need to go here ... http://statmonkey.is-a-geek.net/cycling/login/auth" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , join and add you strava account number, then set your targets, then post you sig link ( the simple climbing one ) onto the end of the list.
It's very simple. Welcome aboard.

A quick jaunt up to Mt. Mee today. Managed 800m in 66km. For all the climbing I don’t seem to be getting any quicker. Maybe if I weighed 65kg I might have a chance.

I suppose all of us want to plan some of our rides and measure what we actually climb, as accurately as possible.

With respect to planning, I compared the RideWithGPS website and bikeroutetoaster with an actual ride I measured with my iPhone 4 earlier on Monday. RideWithGPS predicted 83km and 1748m climbing, bikeroutetoaster predicted 85km and 1013m climbing, and my iPhone Strava app measured 82.7km and 1504m. Given that all of them use something based on Google Maps for their websites, I'm interested to hear if this wide divergence is expected, and if by similar margins for these three systems.

With respect to measurement, I've been slack the last couple of months and just used my phone, but has anyone compared the accuracy of a Garmin Edge 800 (and maybe 500) against various iPhones/Android devices? And I suppose different apps on the phones.
