In other news
I've adjust my target up to 8k, but I promise to double what I've actually got at June 1. I reckon I'll be looking about 9800 for the year but only if I can find a new saddle for the R3, - the fizik antares that came on it is a pain in the bum. Oh well every silver lining has a cloud
All the climbing is not making me any faster though.
I to am thinking of changing my target. Tomorrow will see me click over 3000 km. I just don't know what to aim for. I want something achievable.
As for your saddle. I highly recommend a Brooks Professional. 5 odd hours today and no discomfit what so ever.

Just hope I don't break another spoke
Tomorrow should see me over 1,000KM on the new bike. Also hoping the slider below will go green soon, if it happens tomorrow I'll lose it on the weekend but should be in green after next week weather permitting.

So today was the day for the monthly 200km brevet so I swapped the B17 off the Roubaix and onto the R3 last night ( I weighed them both - antares = 213gm, B17 = 564 - but what's 300gms when you bum is in shreds? Reckon I'll go a Ti B17 - but then a friend swears by his Berthoud and they have the advantage of being entirely replaceable if bits wear and break - decisions, decisions) and set off this morning in the company of Harvey who planned to come along as far as the top of Mac Pass, then I was on my lonesome, as I made my way to Mittagong then on to Picton, Douglas Park, Appin, Stanwell Park and then back down the coast to home.
The day started off cool and foggy, then cleared to a gloriously sunny autumnal day, before developing into a wet and grim autumn day back on the coast, so it was a day of contrasts. The R3 was superb, very comfortable even with stupid 23mm tyres at 110psi on the "well maintained" roads of Wingecarribee and Wollondilly Shires, and so stiff and efficient through the pedals, it was like someone else was doing all the work.
So I was home by 5pm, with 210km and 2900m under the wheels and feel very good considering the efforts of the day . Strava link if you're interested in the route.

I did a fairly comfortable solo 60km ride today, was fairly nice weather in the end as well. If all goes well at tomorrow's group ride this will be my biggest riding week ever. Also joined the ACF club on Strava! I want to join the local club too but I'm a little worried about just flooding their page... Is there a way to not post everyone of your rides to a club page?

Start a new job tomorrow so it might well take over in the next week or so.
Good job to all those in front. Winter is coming (Sounds all Game of Thrones) so a buffer is helpful.

Haha, not for long. The weekend turns up so no commuting. The weather is looking grim this week so green might be further away than I was hoping. We'll see what the weather is like in the morning (raining now).celeste boy wrote:It's green now you rascal!

Is that normal? Looks like spoke pulled out of the wheel. Done about 4k kms on bike since new. Anyway picked up a new wheel today and plan is to go for a ride tomorrow afternoon. Picked up all my winter gear from wiggle today so all set for cold. Bring on the minuses!

A problem with modern wheel design IMHO. Low spoke count wheels with radial mounted spokes require a lot of tension to stay in true. All that tension is through the hub and the rim. Most modern rims don't use eyelets anymore (weight savings apparently ). With all that tension and no eyelet to help relieve the stress you rim is going to be more prone to cracking, this is expatiated by a radial spoke design.Andywho wrote:Noticed my bake tyre rubbing on brakes and my wheel was way outta whack, turn out it had a bit of an issue.

That's why all my wheels are 3x 32 and 36 spokers. It can still happen but less so.

Yes, noticed a bit of a challenge there. Must have had the wind behind you or been riding on Beach Road to build up the kms!DavidS wrote:Finally back in green. See if I can keep it there in our current crap weather.

Interesting reply. Funny thing is I ride along Beach Rd to get to work every day. Tail winds though, they are a dream I occasionally have, the reality is a gale in my face every morning this week. My legs hurt!celeste boy wrote:Yes, noticed a bit of a challenge there. Must have had the wind behind you or been riding on Beach Road to build up the kms!DavidS wrote:Finally back in green. Broken yet another spoke this morning so I'll replace it tomorrow. I do seem to be very hard on bikes. I used to break spokes on the 36 spoke wheel on my old bike until I'd replaced about a dozen of them and it stopped. The new bike has 32 spoke wheel and the manual says the bike can handle a person of up to 136KGs and I'm only about 100, also can handle 14KGs of luggage and I carry a large bag but it doesn't weigh that much. I'll see how I go but I do love the way the wheels on this bike spin, much lower rolling resistance, so I intend to persist. Last bike I managed to break the frame
Should just hold on to the green line over the weekend and hopefully get a bit ahead of it next week.

Dunno if it was a loss of fitness, or the frickin' crazy wind, but I had a very slow 26kph ave on the ride. I'm hoping to get another 150Km or so in for this week by riding both tomorrow and Sunday.
cheers
