Andywho,Andywho wrote:Damn sounds nasty. I've gone off the road a few times, just a 5s lapse in concentration can do it if you're riding within a foot of the road. Normally then that wakes you right up though but if it's a nasty section I could definitely see how you'd come off getting back on the road. Hope he recovers and is back on the bike soon.
Welcome diventare and Ignoto, the more the merrier imo. I've only just joined myself but it's pretty friendly around here. I've started doing group rides these past couple of weeks and been loving it. Helps melt away the kms out riding in a group, helps with the motivation on those cold mornings when you know someone's out there waiting for you and I think teaches you good habits about bike control and pacing. Plus you get to meet heaps of interesting people.
Starting to get cold around here now, had a few 2-3 degree rides and it's only going to get worse. Goal for this week is to put in an order somewhere for some proper cycling clothes. Desperately need a new pair of shoes that actually fit so my feet don't go completely numb after 2 hours, and a pair of gloves, and possibly long sleeve jersey/tights. Might also buy some clear glasses. My sunnies are pretty useless at night time but if I take them off I know I'm gonna cop a bug in the eye at 60km/h and that could be very messy.
if you are chasing some warm and comy cycling gear, I can recommend Mupi Thermal kit, so happy with the kit (long sleeve thermal top and thermal bib longs) I bought last year that I ordered another pair last week. Comfy chamois and keeps me warm on very cold mornings, we've already had a few cold starts in Ballarat-a lot like your weather I think. Check sizing carefully as it is from China; pricing is $70 and can use Paypal. delivery is slow and I have elected to pay slight extra via EMS to allow tracking.
If you don't want to look like a pretend Pro, Ground Effect gear is warm and comfy, I have some "Snake Bites" which are Bib longs, just did 100km in them today and very good chamois, well thought out with a front zip.
Shoes: bought a new pair of Sidi shoes last year, they have some models with a Mega (or wide fitting)-my feet have really enjoyed the upgrade! For sunnies, try photochromatic lenses: clear in reduced light and they go darker when exposed to UV (only need one pair then).

hope he heals quickly. Will be sore for a few weeks with the ribs and collar bone; bit worried with the concussion, glad he had a good helmet on.
cheers

Will let you know mate. I might have a free entry in the Husky100 if you want it. Just have to find out if I am getting my entry paid through work or not.sblack wrote:
Lewy, good to see how well your progress is going. Let me know when you're up to getting out the dirt again. After the Bundanoon Bash on the 18th my off road focus can head down your way.

Jeepers - I know the exact thing that occurred with the path / roadway edge - I've had it happen a few times and am just lucky that I caught it and never crashed - touch wood! Hope he gets back into the saddle soon.
Good effort on the part of you blokes and the emergency services to get him looked after ASAP.
Some of the rides (locations / miles) being shown here are impressive AND inspiring. Keep spinning those cranks!!!
cheers

Due to a number of reasons, I've been restricted a tad lately, although, I'm hoping to ride a 100k'er later this week - fingers crossed.

In other news
I've adjust my target up to 8k, but I promise to double what I've actually got at June 1. I reckon I'll be looking about 9800 for the year but only if I can find a new saddle for the R3, - the fizik antares that came on it is a pain in the bum. Oh well every silver lining has a cloud

All the climbing is not making me any faster though.
I to am thinking of changing my target. Tomorrow will see me click over 3000 km. I just don't know what to aim for. I want something achievable.
As for your saddle. I highly recommend a Brooks Professional. 5 odd hours today and no discomfit what so ever.

I have a B17 special on my Roubaix, and quite love it (you could say I have a soft spot for it) so I'm planning to swap it in the short term but it's a tad heavy. Might go for a Ti Brooks or a Ti Berthoud when my wallet recovers but I'm not looking forward to the break in periodsinglespeedscott wrote:

Very tempted. Let me know, by the time you find out I should know if I can make it or not. Initially I had to be in Newcastle that night so had ruled it out, now it's only Sydney I have to get to so will find out what time and see how feasabile it is, would definately like to do the Husky100.Mugglechops wrote:Will let you know mate. Thanks for the advice, unfortunately it came just after I put through an order to wiggle. The gear you suggested is probably a bit out of my price range too, just gonna go fairly cheap stuff for the first time before I work out what I want. Tally in the end was long bib, long sleeve thermal top, 2 jerseys and winter gloves for $250.
Really enjoyed the group ride today, still can't quite keep up up the hills but better then last week. The group stops at the top of the big hill for everyone to catch up anyway so no big deal. Tempted to put my name down for a race on Saturday duno if it's a good idea yet. Keep up the kms everyone, embrace the cold! Oh yeah I'm so close to the green now Tomorrow should be first time ever in the green for me!

May go a tad easier next time and just roll out a moderate distance slow pace until the sniffles have concluded.
Oh yeah, could not have been a more glorious Autumn day here in West Gippy!
