A quick look at the drive train and my plans of a long ride were toast, it looked horrible, so started reaching for the phone, but with the help of BLC, cobbled a single speed out of the wreckage and I made my way home at a very steady 22kph plus a few single right left drills for good measure. The der hanger looked terrible but will be all better by Wednesday the mechanics at the bike shop nodded approval at the jerry rig.
As the day wore on I've managed a nicely bruised shoulder and I reckon I've broken my pinkie on my left hand (again) thank the lobster for beer and electricians tape.
It was a beautiful day for it though.

Glad to hear you survived without too much damage to yourself. The photos of the bike trauma on the other hand ..... surprised you managed to ride home. I was surprised also that you actually carried a chain breaker to fashion a limp home mode. I wonder how many would have been so equipped.grantw wrote:Had an epic ride today, was aiming for a hard pelt into the RNP and back home, about 120km , but my drive train did an unplannned somersault at the top of bald hill and I came to a complete stop, fell over landing on the kerb (catching the garmin I might add) and then had to work out why ( after I checked I wasn't about to be run over) !

Would love to do that ride. But it means buying another bike

Always good to see some great rides happening in this thread.
Hope you heal up quick Grant.

Happily some motivation in the form of a parcel from c r c was waiting for me when I arrived home from work, a nice new ti Brooks B17 which is now sitting on the R3 so I'd better get out tomorrow morning and commence the breaking in, might be wearing double knicks for a while!

Welcome to the Brooks owners club Grant. I love them. So much so that I have 3 team Pro's and a Colt.grantw wrote:For the first time in a long while I wimped out of my Tuesday morning ride, it was so windy when the alarm went off, just couldn't do it.

Re the break in, you'll be fine. Every Brooks I have got had been comfy from the get go. Just remember to tilt the nose just a little up. Goes against logic but it seems to rotate your hips back and gets the landing gear up so it doesn't get squished and chaffed.

Outside of that, I lost a week to sickness this month, the first weekend of that not even getting out of bed and missing my target of making a minimum 10000 steps for every day of the GCC, a bit of a shame but getting better had a lot more importance than meeting that target. Taking it easier through the week while I recovered also hurt the overall target for the challenge but with Tour da Country training about to ramp up I'm still hopefull of beating last years total.
With the car getting serviced on Monday on decided to take the 29er and do some exploring in the area. I think I ended up spending as much time pushing/carrying the bike looking for trails as I did riding it but have now got a much better idea of where to start next time. Took this shot at a dead end of a trail in Lane Cove National Park. Garmin maps told me there was another trail down at the bottom so that's where I headed.
Managed to find the trail and follow it to a junction before heading up to South Turrumurra for a lunch break. From there it was back down and across the river to successfully head back along the track I should have taken in the first place. Saw plenty of other tracks heading off to the side to explore next time. Was good to get out and do some exploring on the 29er but damn I was stuffed for such a short ride. Hoping to get out for a much longer one this weekend, I believe things are a little flatter down Nowra way though aren't they mugglechops? Having someone who knows where they're going should also help a lot too.

Yesterday, got to ride with a few of our local NRS Pros - they took it easy on me!
Today, cracked 7,500Km for the year and am happy to say that despite the crazy winds I'm riding in, I'm feeling as though the dreaded is well and truly past me. Now, just have to stay well until the warmer weather arrives!
Keep up the good work all.
cheers

I am going to go for the 1000Km this month - have 5 days to get 250Km, so we'll see how we go. If the weather is good, I may get there.
I've done 4000Km on the CAAD10 now and am absolutely loving it - a ripping bike.
Keep up the good work all!
cheers
