Edit: I'm back in business. Today's ride went much better. A good 67.1km with a couple of good hit-outs on some fun Strava segments. :)

g-boaf, sounds a bit too variable to be muscle strain, have you had someone look at it?

as you are currently 26km in front of me half of me wants to ask:
Could it be a very tight piriformis muscle in your butt, have you tried stretches (or even better)? These helped Mrs C+W's "calf strain".

the not so good half suggests taking it a little easier, resting up and making sure you don't over-do things :) :) :)

Almost there...
The good news: I rolled it out yesterday with the rumble roller (torture device). There is a small bruise there today but it feels a heck of a lot better. I had a nice easy ride today, some 2nd fastest times on the way down and one PR. Now 5896km. I need 14km this afternoon to get my 200km for the week. I might do a really slow ride this afternoon.

The bad news: I put in 60.5km. :D (sorry Coffeeandwine) ;)

Onwards to 6000km! :D

Nice work G-boaf! Great the leg is behaving; 104km, you can smell it.
Better keep it up though. I managed 54km yesterday and followed up with another 42 today. Sitting on 5853km YTD.

Today's ride could have been a bit longer but I was still chasing meters climbed, I managed 490m yesterday and 687m today, 57,323m YTD aiming for 60,000m. I am not sure I will get there on this one (2,700m in 9 days).

Good luck, go and get it.

Well done cancan, and keep it up gboaf. Feels good to reach that goal.

I will be off the bike for a few days, as I got a nasty cut on my shin, when I missed a step going up (rough edged concrete) stairs. I only injure myself during safe looking activites. 2 stitches and feet up for 2 days. You dont want to know how it looked...

Ooh there's a few getting very close to 6,000KM. Still, 200KMs in the week of Christmas and New Year, could be a close run thing. CoffeandWine, I'm sure you can do it. Where's Celsteboy? I seem to remember he was damned close too. g-boaf, with an injury. Looks like most of us will make it this year but there are going to be a few big last weeks I reckon.

As for Colin, I never seem to be able to catch him but I do rest easy in the knowledge he only has one wheel to drag around so clearly has an advantage ;)

I reckon I can just make 7,500 before I finish work for the year on Tuesday, a damned good year.

Good work Cancan! That's a big effort. :)

C&W: there is plenty of time, no rush - and no sneaky extra kilometres!!! :D

I'm want to go out tonight if the weather holds out. It's too hot this morning.

Marto: Hope you heal quickly.

Grantw: thanks. :) I'm not going to rush it, this just a couple of 60km rides will be fine - though it is tempting to do a 100+ ride.

Well done - I don't know when yo last logged but even on your current bar it's only a hairs breadth now to 7500.

I have a few health issues that have arisen in the last month or so. So you should sail past me in 2014. And then I'll rest easy in the knowledge that I am getting a litle too old to keep this up. And in desperation I might also claim exemption for the time I am in Europe.

Hope you can get over the health issues. It's not fun when the body decides it doesn't want to do what the heart wants to do.

I put in a lovely 59.5km this morning. It was just wonderful with some headwinds and even a bit of rain. :D It was so nice to get home and not be drowned in sweat. 8)

6000km is so close I can almost see the finish line. And I'm so, so tempted to go out and do another 60km this afternoon. My legs feel okay, maybe I can do it.

Made it to 7,500 today. My bike decided to try and stop me though - broken spoke yesterday and today! Now I have a week and a half to fix it and get the tensions right.

g-boaf, very close and C&W within spitting distance. Looks like the end of year will see most of us over the line.

Colin, I'll probably ride a bit less next year just because I have to take a shorter route to work (for some unknown reason they expect me there on time, go figure, what are they, morning people??). We'll see if I can stay ahead of you, if I get ahead that is. My holidays will be in Feb so I'll fall behind then and have to make it up. I'll be aiming for 6,800 again.

Merry Christmas all, hope Santa brings good toys (I'm expecting a record from Santa :D ).

I cracked 13k this morning, after a fairly decent trek from Moorabbin to Sorrento and return with a few mates - they certainly challenged me! Was a good morning for cycling here.

Have a great Christmas all.

Merry Christmas to you Macca (and everyone else too)! 13K is awesome. :)

Thanks DavidS for the encouragement. I thought I'd sneak in another 60.2km this afternoon. As it turned out, you can't hide on the M7 cycleway. Caught out. :D

Haha Tim. :)

It was classic all the people I knew on the M7 this morning and tonight getting in extra kilometres before Christmas. :) I put in 120km just today.

You guys encouraged me a lot. :) If it weren't for all of you I certainly wouldn't be riding the amount of kilometres I do now. :)

Thanks mate! My celebration might be another ride tomorrow afternoon if I can get away with it.

I spent tonight going at moderate speed, not putting in much effort and keeping the heart rate low. Absolutely surprised how good my legs feel after that - they actually feel fresh.

Very nice work g-boaf! Well done. I am still a few km short but confident of getting there by NYE. I haven't given up on the elevation target either.

great work Macca, can't even contemplate 13K that is an awesome effort.

Have a great Christmas everyone, ride (and travel) safely.

Congrats g-boaf.

Someone really should work out how many beers or hamburgers or sticky date puddings 6,000km entitles us to have.

Thank you gents!

Now I'm onto the Rapha Festive 500. As you can see I'm doing silly kilometres in even more silly weather. 179km in two days.

Colin: 6,000 did entitle me to a chocolate cake, which I did some 30km before I got the 6000km mark...
