Well I made my target today, not bad with still about a month of riding to work to go, might even beat last year when I did about 7,200. Pretty happy to have made it in November :D

DS

You still have six weeks to go. So, with the cold miserable weather behind us, how about you join me and head to the same 8,000km?

While I am a little ahead of you, I can't realistically increase my weekly rate - there simply aren't any more hours in the week and I can't increase my speed - while you possibly can.

You know you wanna do it.

And congrats - I think anyone riding beyond 6000km in year is a standout.

Just read an article in "Bike" magazine featuring a 160K loop in the Illawarra listing many of the locations and climbs mentioned regularly in reports by Shane, Grant and others.

A big rap on the area "this is the best riding close to Sydney if not Australia" makes it sound like Gods own cycling country ...... if the weather is fine I guess :D

On my own front a little bit behind target at the moment, after 6 weeks off the bike, but making an effort to address that before years end. Great to hear of others achieving target well in advance and then upping the ante.

Tomorrow I will knock over my elevation target of 40000m . It seems I ride a lot?
But I'm in awe of you guys who have covered 100000m  I guess if I was 40 years younger there may be a chance, well done to all you mountain men. 8)

Yes, we do have some nice riding around here. Back in 2010 I put together a route covering a few local climbs. At the time it was t give someone a link to some of the climbs around the area and a bit of a distant future goal one day being a strong enough rider to complete the loop. Fast forward three years and I've ridden all the climbs in the route at some stage but the most I'd ever done on a single ride was two of the four, I'd also forgotten about this course I'd put together as since then I'd found strava so if I wanted to point out some climbs to someone I'd send them a segment link. Then I went on the Tour da Country and a journalist had decided to cover the Tour. I met James when he joined us for stage 1 and he'd mentioned the article he'd put in Bike about riding the area around here. He had to head back home that night but rejoined us again for the second week of the Tour, bringing a copy of the magazine with him. I should mention that on that first stage he'd earnt the nickname of Ninja due to his stealth skills that enabled him to ride up ahead to take a photo and completely disappear and not be seen again until his announcing that he's back on.

Anyway, reading the article and further discussions on what became known amongst Tour riders as The Ninja Loop jogged my memory about the course I'd put together. Turns out the only difference between the Ninja Loop and the course I'd put together was that I turned right at the top of Saddleback to go to the lookout before turning around and heading back down and rejoining the Ninja loop after the short detour. I didn't know about Cambewarra Lookout or the short, steep climb to it back then so that one was missed on both our courses.

So continued discussion between riders showed there was a few riders who would like to have a crack at The Ninja Loop, adding both lookouts and a possible final detour out to Mellows Rd to see just how far we can get before breaking ourselves. So, hopefully our schedules line up and the weather is fine so we can do the ride next month. Should make for some great training for the ACE250.

Mustang, if you have a look at the profile of the loop you may understand how we get the 100000m. I live inside the loop, so there's not a lot of options around that don't involve a decent amount of climbing.

Colin and David, well done on knocking over your targets.

Mellows road is frightening, I've seen less steep walls  Will have to make a special trip!

In other news went for a nice long ride today, feeling pretty good but cut it short when storms started popping up all along the escarpment and to be honest I was feeling the lack of saddle time!

Well done! :)

I'm trying for 6000km, but it is going to take some serious riding on my part to do it.

I'm at 4815km so far.

Some on this forum would know of the hassles I have had with some of the components on my Trek Rig. Today, Trek offered to replace the whole bike.
Thank you for the support and advice.

Not knowing the background that sounds like the best possible outcome other than a full refund of the purchase price.
Good to hear.

Haha, don't think so. I can't really increase my distances. I will get over 7,000 again this year so that's good. My ride to work has shortened because I need to be there on time so I'm hoping to still set 6,800 for 2014. But 8,000? Nah, I just can't see that happening.

You just keep jumping ahead of me so I'll leave you to 8,000. Well done by the way, 8,000 is a hell of a year on one wheel.

Well tomorrow I will have my target: :D
VeloViewer Score
77.68 ?

From 56 of 224 segments.
Maximum possible score: 99.68

Activity count:
125 Rides Total dist: 5,980 km
Total elev: 40,726 m
Total time: 9d 10:18:26
Max dist: 129 km - Noosa Strada Bianchi Max elev:1,861 m - Noosa Strada Bianchi Max time:05:59:04 - Noosa Strada Bianchi

Next year I can only ride for 10 months, so it will be about the same. The prostate will be filed under B , so hopefully that only takes 6 weeks out??
You guys who ride 10K have me in awe    In 2015 I might see if I can do it once???
Cheers

If you can manage 1000km a month, you've got 10,000km done. Good effort there! :)

I'm getting closer to being on target for 6000km this year. I'm doing a full on week at the moment to make sure of it. 91km yesterday, 67km today.

Great work Mustang!

Well I'm glad I went hard early in the year cause my November tally didn't trouble the score keeper to any great extent. Managed 350km with 2826m of up. First time this year I've fallen below 1%. Oh well!

Good news is I'm pretty much recovered from my stack, and subsequent colds, so just need to get back into the routine.

My report for November:

A little under the distance target with only 400km, but I had been concentrating on increasing my elevation climbed.
Major achievements for the month: first HC climb (Lake Mountain - 21km at 4.3%, 927m climbing in total) in 1:48 (5760m of climbing for Nov).

Which leaves distance YTD 5,426km (574km remaining)
elevation YTD 52,253m (7747 left to climb).
Given all the interruptions of December, it could be a challenge reaching both targets.

Aaaah. Doncha just love it when that little bar is almost full to the right.

If the ankle will just hold off for a while longer...

Some great work in here - well done all.

Just clicked over 12k after rolling for 1183km in November in spite of the late wintry weather.

Looking forward to rounding out my first full year of cycling with 13k or so.

Keep up the good work.

cheers

I had a 1188km November. I'm planning to do 1000km December so I should get 6,000km for the year barring any unforeseen circumstances.

This week was 336km - which you've probably seen from the ACF Strava club. Having a great time. 8)

I was going to go for 24km this afternoon to make it 360km  but I've got the left overs of yesterday's calf cramp that didn't completely free up. there is still a couple of hours left... :D

Good work though, 330km is a good distance. I did 356km a few weeks back for the first time. It was damn hard work. This week was much easier. :D

Onwards! 8) Here is to a great week of riding coming up. :)
