Well done Andywho. Sounds like a dream run for your first race.

Mugglechops wrote:Are you still keen for the Husky100? If you are I will chase up that free entry.

Yeah, still keen. I've convinced my wife I can do the ride then get to Sydney in time that night, so I'll have extra incentive to keep a good pace up too.

Good stuff Shane I will chase up my free ticket this week.

I got 52kms in this morning with Norbs and another mate. It felt like 150.

Riding in the country you have to be prepared to dodge some sloppy poo :D

Nice photo Lewy, been a little bit o rain about, amazing what it flushes out :-)

I've just clocked up my first week of 0kms since last September, my clumsiness last weekend was only the beginning of a crappy week with some man flu and lousy weather combining to have me resting up for a few days. Then this weekends plans had other plans than riding but I felt quite guilty, especially when I drove past guys on their bikes - and big ups to the guys riding the brutal but fair 600km this weekend.

Hopefully back on the bike on Tuesday!

And no mention of a gauntlet from David S. Must be being kind after I travelled to Melbourne to see the Tigers get beaten.
But I did get to drool over the Campo Anniversary groupset in Cecil Walkers window!

Good thing you have a handy 1,200 km buffer on that merciless red triangle - it ran me down in 10 days & I am now back trying to build a buffer again. :D

The buffer shrinks very quickly indeed, and I'm going to lose a lot more of it tomorrow when I review my annual target  Looks like I'll be aiming for 9k and a bit :)

I'll prob reset my target too, although it's quite nice to look at when it's green. Seems like 300-350km/w is pretty comfortable for my schedule though so might need to aim a bit higher then 7K.

80kms yesterday and another 80 today (including a painful 24km this morning with 450m elevation), and got a race on Sat. Might do a very easy 20kms tomorrow just for the sake of filling in the square on strava. :D

Well, after this mornings ride the new target is 9170.

The monthly total is a bit light on mostly due to mountain biking mishaps and getting a bit of manflu so only 623km and 7862m of up. I think I've acclimatised to the colder weather though, so looking forward to the rest of winter now :)

2,946km down as of today, will crack the 3,000 mark on Sunday! Halfway there..... I'm determined to make my target this year, and do it comfortably.

I've got a 700km charity ride in September too, which will help!

Some big kms happening. I am slowly getting back into it again.

Have done about 150kms since Sunday. I was testing out the shoulder today on the SS.

And my mate was showing how not to cross creeks :D

I probably looked similar to that on the creek crossing for the Bundanoon Bash. I knew the water was deep enough that if I pedalled my shoe would go under so I decided the best option was to have enough speed to freewheel through. Water sprayed up all over me but the inside of my shoes stayed dry :D Still unsure what the best option really is.

Nice pics muggle, I'm gonna have to get back on the mtb soon, don't think I've touched it in 2 months.

Had my 2nd race today, 30km handicap. Not too hilly course, but a strong wind, 7.5km out and back twice, outbound tailwind and inbound headwind. Got caught by the group behind about 8kms out from the finish and had fun keeping up with them, my group was averaging 34-35km/h by ourselves and then about 36-37 after we were caught. Scratch caught us about 5kms out which made us the lead group of about 20, very intense for someones that's never been riding let alone racing with that many in a group. No breaks even attempted, just a massive headwind so just tucked in behind wheels. I was working hard to keep up on the hills but managing ok. The wheel I was following got itchy about 800m out so I spent everything to stick. He died about 15secs later leaving me off the front where I lasted about 5 seconds before the whole group overtook me. Watched them fight it out and rolled over the line 30 secs behind.

http://app.strava.com/activities/57423146#

A lot of fun and really just happy to finish with (or close to) the group. Big confidence boost just knowing I can stick with a 37km/h group for 5kms even if I didn't do any work. Next week.. individual time trial! Only 15kms so should be fun.

May must have been a good month for a few of us, just over 830KMs for me, and passed the red triangle. Just have to try and keep it up.

Well done macca33 and singlespeedscott on the 1000km months.

I think my May had the lowest rate of climbing for the year for me but I still managed to make my monthly target ending up with 7741m over the 692.9km. Overall pretty happy with the month which saw the successful running of the Bundanoon Bash and the first two training rides for the Tour da Country.

May also saw the start of the Global Corporate Challenge which I'm taking part in for the second time. For those unfamiliar with it it's a a workplace health program aimed at getting people healthier by becoming more active. While I already consider myself reasonably active it was good last year seeing the positive impact it had on many people who took part last year and it's already starting to cause people to make changes and become more active. This year they've replaced the pedometer with an accelerometer they've called the GCC pulse. Basically you wear you pulse all day and it gives you a step count. On top of the step count there are additional fields to enter cycling kilometres , which then get converted at a rate of 300 steps per kilometre, and swimming metres, which gets converted at 475 steps per 100 metres.

Last year I had the aim of trying to earn all the virtual trophies they had on offer which saw me doing a bit less riding and replacing it with some running and swimming. It also saw me reconsider doing a ride if it was the day before a mini challenge in the GCC. This year I've decided it's not going to effect my riding and all GCC goals are secondary. Still I decided to set myself a few goals for the challenge. The first is to have a minimum step count of 10000 for every day of the challenge. The second is to beat my average from last year of 27093 and the third is to achieve a personal best of 100000 on one day during the challenge.

I'll also try and get as many of the virtual trophies as possible which is a bigger task this year than last. They have added more trophies and also introduced levels within the trophies. They haven't specified exactly what is needed to achieve the trophies either so you need to reach the first level to find out what it is and then you get told what percentage of the way you are towards the next level as you progress. The swimming one seams pretty full on. Another member of my team has got the first step which seams quite manageable at 100m of swimming but the second step looks to be about 5000m then there are 3 more after that! By comparison the cycling one kicks off after 10km which they claim is the average distance of a commute to work. The second step is at 160km which they list as the average length of a Tour de France stage this year. The third step looks to be about 1040 km (any guesses on what that relates to?) and there is one more after that.

So that's enough background on the GCC other than it runs until the 11th of September and has a mini challenge each month that is likely to feature in my goals for the month. June's challenge is this weekend and is to beat you personal best on either this Saturday or Sunday. Currently that means 33295 or better and the plan is to get a good chunk of, if not all of, it sorted with a morning ride on Saturday.

My other goal for June is the Husky 100. I'm setting what I think will be an ambitious target of 6 hours for the ride which will be fairly quick by my dirt riding standards.
