open topic, for anything cycling related.
Seams to be plenty of riding going on in here which is good to see. Well done to those passing their halfway mark for their yearly target and to those who are upping their target due to exceeding their expectations for the first half of the year.
Mugglechops, top effort on today's ride. Look's like you found a section to Killalea I haven't ventured to yet, might have to check it out when I get the new chain put on the 29er.
Winter is hard
Went out this morning to keep some momentum going after the weekend, and was alternatively freezing or boiling. Arrived home soaked from the wet roads and my own sweat, nicely chilled by the thoughtful headwind, lungs tight, and toes aching. An hour later after a long shower and long drive I'm still chilled and don't think my lungs unpacked themselves properly til tea time.
On the plus side, the sunrise was beautiful
I'm still slowly falling away from my target. Still riding to work 3 or 4 days a week but just lacking time and motivation to ride on the weekends. Cold Highlands weather is not helping I'm sure I will catch up later in the year.
Celeste Boy, was that you I saw yesterday belting down Cutaway Hill?
I usually only do 55 down there but did 61 yesterday without pedalling too hard. Must have been wind? Must have been concentrating because I didn't see you, sorry.
I don't know how you can be behind, you seem to be on Strava every day. Although I must point out- none of those trophy thingamies lately!
I'll probably do the same ride on Friday (and probably solo) so if I see you I'll do a U turn and follow you down to Bowral.
I don't think it matters where you live "Winter is Hard" . Its Ok to rug up at the start, then you have to pack the gear somewhere?
I take my hat off to you guys in the south, I just would not function in those temps!!
Rolled through the 3300km halfway this morning in rather super if cold (for here) conditions. Much better than the very strong blustery conditions on Saturday.
Great to see the sun again after a long period of pretty ordinary weather
It certainly is a struggle through the colder / wetter periods. Fortunately, I have a little bit of flexibility with work rostering and have been getting out a bit - in between showers. I can certainly relate to the frozen heart / lungs and other internal organs that grantw describes too!
I'm adjusting to the weather at last, though it has been unpleasantly windy hereabouts this weekend, so I took to the hills and ground out a few repeats. Not so good for the distance target but the climbing target is also important . Weather forecast for the next week is looking very meh. I reckon my buffer will be gone very soon...
Sequential posting! How's everyone else doing?
After the bundanoon bash I couldn't find my waterproof and windproof outer shell anywhere (it was a beauty too, a cinettica velocita) and figured I had dropped it somewhere or other while I was falling off - so, what with the weather lately I bit the bullet and ordered a nice new castelli jacket. It arrived yesterday and I was primed to ride this morning in it's toasty warmth.
Getting ready to leave this morning I was faffing around in the dark looking for my spare pump and then oh what's that there, in the pocket of the camelbak, it's my old outershell!
Never fails - think I've lost something, buy a new one and the lost article appears.
No, wouldn't happen at all.
(Careful readers would note that I was looking for the "spare" pump, that's the one I bought after I misplaced the other one )
Passed the halfway mark for the year today, probably appropriate on the shortest day of the year, all downhill from here. Given I was on leave in January I should be fine to reach the target and hopefully push past 7,000KMs. Also clocked up 2,000 KMs on the bike I got in mid March.

............... and too modest to mention that he is 300 ahead of me. What a guy!
It isn't over till the end of December so just keep riding, it will happen
Bit of a chilly start to the morning, 3.3°C (or -1.4°C apparent), glad I opted for the full finger gloves.
A few non-starters this morning, so off I went on a 50km solo ride. Averaged 25kmh for the first hour (good for me) but slowed down with a few hills for the second hour (24.1kmh over 50km). All up, a couple of "almost PB's" on Strava and back into the green... really enjoyed my time out this morning.
I thought that was warm for Ballarat this time of year
Not if you read our Tourist brochures
Well the winter is really kicking in here in newcastle, been really cold in the mornings, i have been waiting till it warms a bit around 10am before i have been venturing out lately between the rain/wind it doesn't give you too much enthusiasm to go too far from home, so the rides have been more closer to areas where i can get protection from the elements if need be the swansea/belmont/caves beach rides have been more favourable lately!

After the disruption of losing my meter a short time back and while having to get used to the new one (Bryton GPS thingy) I've been haphazardly jotting down distances to construct my log. Anyway I found the spot that my meter accumulates all my rides and got the pleasant surprise of finding another 68km that I had "lost" in my notes. Yay.
I still don't understand the Bryton or it's website log so I've also added a really basic meter last night just to give me a ready ytd distance so hopefully I'll have things in order for regular logging again.
And thanks to a recent move to another office it looks like I could match last years total even though I had no intention at the start to do so.

Unchain yourself - Ride a unicycle .
Nice ride Scott, that's some serious climbing. I managed 129kms today, new furthest distance after 110kms 2 weeks ago. Felt good this time, pretty sure I could have done another 20 pretty easily. Going to try and do a little more on the big ride each week until I get to 180km or so.
Hey we're both in green, what could be better?
Except now Colin has logged a huge number of KMs he's way in front of me again. I don't think I'll ever catch his wheel.
