Another flat on the way home from the gym Friday morning. Caused by an intrusion and it typical fashion couldn't find the offending object so I'm assuming it got ejected. Hasn't gone down since

And I patched about 20 tubes the other day....
Gosh I've gone for 2 months without a flat

Number 9 for this year, on the Steely with hand me down tyres, nearly 1 a month.
On my road bike I have fitted Schwalbe Durano Plus, without incident, they seem to be more resistant to cutting (touch wood)

Having a super year, only 4 so far. Fairy pube on the commute home last night, really slow leak so had time to find a nice place to fix it.

+1 for me to make 7 for the year - fairy pube got me in Bicentennial Park (Homebush) Friday 22nd afternoon. While it was bucketing down. The wire penetrated just on the edge of the contact patch, and was protruding a good 1.0 to 1.5mm on the inside of the tyre = easy to find, but needed tweezers to pull it out.

This was on my less-ridden cannondale. The tyre (GP4000s) has done 3200 km since it's last flat, and 6700 km since new (3 flats all up, for an average 2200 km per flat). Pretty happy with that - wire's going to beat most defenses, especially in the wet.

To late to register but I will chuck mine in anyway:
1/ Noticed the rear was a bit low at work, pump was at home so going to work mates to pump it up and pinched the tube 500mtr from his house...got to pump up the new tube.
2/ Down at Hastings Point (NSW) for holidays and went for an very early morning ride....tack in the front wheel in the middle of nowhere...no mobile coverage, no spares or tools started walking and fortunately it was only a 5km hobble to a servo... managed to borrow a phone but wife was not happy...I had no idea where I was and had to try and explain to wife how to get to me....carry spares on all bikes now.
3/ 3rd ride after upgrading to expensive tubeless tyres, thorn in the front and the goo didnt stop it
4/ 4th ride after upgrading to expensive tubeless tyres, somehow got a small cut on the sidewall...expensive tubeless tyres have tubes in them now
5/ Purchased Ebay special to keep at work, took it on the road with me and tube pinched on spoke...didnt have any tape in there...was in a town with no bike shop so just patched the tube and went for quick ride
6/ Pinched the tube again from above quick ride (tyre went down overnight so didn't effect ride)
7/ Purchased tape when I was home on the weekend but new tube blew as I was pumping it up....made a good noise
That's it for the next couple of years...

Bad luck comes in 3's, I got a broken spin and a flat on the same ride so I was on high taxi alert for the return ride, but luckily #3 was a second flat

+2 = 23

Go to ride and the front us flat again. I'm in a hurry and I know it requires proper investigation, so I swap the wheel and head off. Later when I'm home I give it a really good investigation and find nothing so I put patches on the inside of the tyre where minor cuts appear. Replace the tube, pump it up and leave it overnight. In the morning it's still rock solid, so I swap the wheel and ride off. Later when home I check it and it's rock solid.

When I got up this morning it's flat. Far out. So after a seriously close investigation I find nothing. So I decide to put a new rim tape on over the old one and a new tyre

Slow puncture on my rear. Pumped up the rear tire yesterday morning before the ride and noticed I was on 60 psi. This is my 'Sunday only' bike so I figured I would be OK to actually to ride on (i.e it had dropped from 100 to 60 psi in a week). I thought the bike felt a bit squirrelly in the last few km's yesterday, and when I got home and hung the bike up I noticed the rear tire was a bit squishy. It was flat by the evening. A quick visual inspection shows a small glass shard that seems to have been further embedded into the tire.

I suppose the lesson here is to check your tires at the end of the ride for debris.

So that's +5 for me.

+3 punctures today in one ride!

Between the two of us riding, I used up my spare and puncture two other tubes as well. 2 punctures happened at once, hit a bump that was much bigger than normal and bang - PSSSSH! (cue expletives).

I really did upset the puncture gods I think.

That'll teach me to be a smart rectum. Shard of steel through the rear lithion 2 on the tt bike the other day.
Pretty impressed with those lithion 2 tyres overall though. They were dirt cheap and have lasted pretty well.

Don't know what I finished with, don't even want to think about it. But I've started 2014 with a front puncture already. I managed to run over half of a wire-spring loaded bulldog clip. The wire spring-loading it went straight through the front tyre. When I pulled it out, PSSSSH...

Thanks to the guy in the ute who offered me a lift home if I needed it - that was very kind. I pressed on and had a great ride. :)

So with that, I suggest we open the 2014 Black Cats Award thread.

Yes, first rude of 2014 today, and my near new Marathon Supreme has been exposed as an expensive piece of rubbish:

Image

Front tyre sidewall was sliced clean through, tube exploded. Dodgy patch with $5 note to get me home, tyre has been binned.

Marathon Supreme test over. Back to the Marathon Plus as soon as I do a c r c order!

If the green guard is like the Supreme, I wouldn't bother. The sidewall on the Supremes is very flimsy. I was able to install the tyre from new with zero effort.

Today's ride exposes the sidewall for what it is - rubbish. I must have flicked a piece of glass just as I leant into the turn across the on-ramp. There was a massive bang and that was it. I was looking for the nail in the top and found nothing, then
saw the gaping hole in the sidewall.

I have put the remaining supreme on the front and hopefully it holds until I can get the SMPs delivered, along with more tubes.

I changed over to a SCHWALBE spicers and got a flat from a bit of glass . First flat in a long while and of coarse in the pouring rain with thunder. Nothing has beat my old maxxis overdrives, they are just a slow rolling tyre and heavy but over 2000kms and not one flat on them.
