Police bicycles

Was going into Parliament House yesterday and spotted a Police cyclist (there are quite a few around there). He was happy to talk about his bike, a Hillbrick Eagle ( http://www.policebike.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). I was assuming that like police cars, their bikes would be one of the major brands rather than handbuilt models from a local company ( http://www.hillbrick.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ).

This got me looking at what Police ride OS and found that Smith and Wesson make a police bike in the US: http://tiny.cc/x8ayqw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

I've seen a few of those, but never knew who made them.

I wonder, do any Police use road-bikes around the world? My guess is not due to the limitations of them.

Not that I've seen many/any recently due to less hanging around in the Perth CBD these days, but I think I recall the ones I saw being Giant hard tail MTBs... just with blue & white chequered livery and various racks and such. This was a few years back.

Maybe they need to get with the whole CX fad in terms of urban versatility? :D
