Perhaps instead of "Philisms" they could be called "Liggetures" ... after you've said one you want to tie your mouth shut.

Eisel is now leading the peloton up the mountain. His Sky team mate is Bradley Wiggins, Tour De France winner and gold medalist at the Olympic games time trial....

And Sherwin must be running out of ideas too - he trotted out his old "suitcase of courage" line on the Corkscrew the other day...

You guys are so cynical its on prime time tv ...... IF they expand a bit to educate people who would normally not watch cycling then all power to them. Crickey this is Australia and there is cycling on tv every day from 9.30 to 11 or when ever it finishes. I get to choose tennis or cycling and I love the choice tennis SUCKS so do footy, cricket and all the other rubbish we are fed. Just enjoy it!!!

Indeed, I love the voices of cycling and understand that they are catering for an audience that may not be so tuned to the sport than us.

Host: How about the Gorilla, Andre Greipel? How good do you have to be to win 13 times?
Phil: If you win 13 times, you're pretty good.
Host: ...Yes, he is pretty good.

Liggett and Sherwin talking about how riders prepare for a season based upon what they want to acheive.
Liggett is explaining how riders preparing for the TdF tend to start slowly in the season.
Liggett:"Having said that however, Cadel's team-mate, TJ Van Garderen is currently racing in the Tour De San Luis and is coming second."
Sherwin: "I think you can put that down to youthful experience".

How can Liggett still be in a job after the BS he came out with late last year (quite apart from the whole Liggetisms thing, which I actually don't mind so much, adds a degree of humour)? Unbelievable.

Liggett's looking tired - retirement is beckoning I think.

But there others, every bit as competent and entertaining - Carlton Kirby, David Harmon, Brian Smith, Magnus Backstedt (when he stops riding for good). Even Sean Kelly makes a half-decent fist of it. The future of cycling commentary is assured.

Is it my imagination or is Phil getting more muddled and confused more often?

Liggett said last year that he wanted to retire already, because he's feeling his age and has other things to do, but he can't because he is bound by contracts for a few more years.
In that case it's understandable that maybe his commentary is suffering from fatigue or a slight reduction in effort or enthusiasm.
It would be a shame if he lets the disenchantment show enough to compromise his reputation.
