sent to me by a friend in the UK, but think it's on Cross Road approaching South Road overpass, Adelaide.
Anyone know who?
it really is a very poor sprint and I'd like to know how he got it so wrong. Bike broke, or hit lane paint, perhaps.
The bike seems straight, then he collapses to the right on a right downstroke with leg acceleration, which I would associate with breaking a chain, gear change chain slip, or even just change down instead of up. He seems clipped in still when its all past saveable. The same effort seated would probably not have dislodged him.
Looks like a messy paceline with too much aggression/surging on a turn at the front anyway, which the ride leader should be discouraging given the traffic conditions/location. Some parts of a training ride should be treated as a commute if thats what the traffic dictates.
Pulled his foot out; cleat breaking; chain slipping on big ring or rear cassette; etc?
Don't know him or the area but those two guys immediately adjacent particularly the guy on his left did well not to collide with him or the bike.
Ouch - looks like a bad fall. Hope the rider was okay. Is this really a good idea given the traffic is about?
Hope the media doesn't see this.

Ouch!... yeah looks like a pretty dumb arse place for a regular sprint, if that is what it is... but then it's a long time since I lived in a city.
Also he could of done the same thing if he was riding on his own and it would've just been a guy accelerating to catch a green light... after a nice little tow on the truck.
I am sure his friends went back as quick as they could... the last thing you do is jam on your brakes in a situation like that, just takes out more riders behind you.
My guess would be that loss of resistance at the chainring forcing the riders weight forward. What caused the sudden loss of resistance? My two best guesses are chain slipped off the big ring or chain snapped.
I've done something similar albeit all by myself, the cause of mine was chain fell off the big ring.
looking at it, looks like to much swinging about just as he hits some road makings.
