Bike sizing?

Postby brucester22 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:40 pm

Quick question about sizing.

I know i shouldbe fitted but i have been fitted twice and got 2 different sizes.

The giant website says that a L frame for my height of 6' is suitable.

When i fill in those fit calculators with all body measurements, it recomends a top tube of 59.5cm.

The giant L has a top tube of 57.5cm.

So confused.

Is there a world of difference between a L frame and an XL?

Bike sizing, and in particular the top tube length, has a lot to do with just what your preferred riding position is, and the primary use of the bike.

For general riding you are better off with a slightly shorter top tube allowing for a more upright position with less weight on your hands.

On the other hand if the primary use for the bike is racing, a longer top tube will give you a more aero position.

However even then a shorter top tube may still be best, as it’s easy to adjust for a more aero riding position by fitting a longer stem, but it’s impossible to adjust the bike fit if the frame is too big.
