dura-ace vs. liposuctionmy bike has shimano sora and so i was thinking of upgrading to dura-ace to make it lighter
but i realised that i could get liposuction which doesn't cost too much more and it would probably save more weight what do you guys think?
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionI have a Sora Groupset, to be frank, I think riding a SORA would make you a better rider then a Dura Ace. May be 5 yrs from now the SORA would get as light as the Dura Ace and then everyone's happy
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionBoth. You can't have Dura Ace without a lipo-tuck!
Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionTurn the bike into a fixie, consider it liposuction for the bike.

Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionA new groupset leaves less scarring.

Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionlipo- have medicare fund your upgrade !!!
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionWhat about a leg amputation. Probably more weight saving there and you would also develop a good pedal technique.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionget the dura-ace. the problem with liposuction is that you will just put the weight back on. dura-ace doesn't get heavier.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionIs lipo really going to reduce much weight for you? What weight/cost are we talking about? How much time off the bike to recover from the surgery?
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionI understand lipo usually removes less than 2kg of fat.
Most can lose that with 3-4 weeks of dieting. It amazes me people go through the operation, rather than eat appropriately for a month. Fav Ride : Pottsville, Byron, Bangalow, Eureka, Dunoon, Nimbin, Uki, Mooball, Pottsville 200km 3000m
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionwell i'm already pretty fit and have little body fat (like 5-10% body fat)
but dura ace saves what like 500g over sora? i figured if i were to pay for dura ace to save a measly 500g then i might as well get lipo and save more weight for almost the same price
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionif you get the dura ace you wont get looked down on by the 10 crew.
cyclists on $10k bikes riding 10kms drinking their $10 lattes.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuction
I call them the Venge Boys. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuction
Sweet Jesus, if you were joking around, then well played. I laughed. If you aren't joking, book in the psychologist ASAP. You can't operate your way to fat loss... Dura Ace will definitely be around longer than the operation.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionI hope you arent serious..... I really do.
Re: dura-ace vs. liposuction
Without seeing a pic, IMHO you don't need to lose weight... There's also the ego benefit of DIY not having someone else taking weight off you... Not to mention the performance benefit of pretty much any groupsan over Sora... Finally, as mentioned previously, the only scarring DA will leave you with is if you muff the crankset instal. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: dura-ace vs. liposuctionIf you get lipo and keep eating and exercising at the same rate as you do now, you will put the weight back somewhere ese.
You could get really fat knees. And that would disguise your nicely toned VMOs. Or - you could just take a credit card and buy a banana at your destination instead of riding around with it in your jersey pocket. That would save a few hundred grams.
