Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedputting this on the wish list
I got Hydraulic disc brakes on my Hybrid and they are brilliant. So, for this technology to come to these bikes WITH Di2 groupsets is awesome. Cheers

Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedAnd they said it couldn't be done!
Bring it on.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
Same here, spinman, and cable discs on a steel CX bike - excellent stuff. But weight weenies will be vomiting.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedI saw some high end Colnago's with disc's the other day.
Definitely something different!
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedWants!

Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedThat's as good an excuse as any for SRAM to go electronic
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
They will be heavier, much heavier really as compared to my cable brakes. What's the point, given the cable brakes are excellent at stopping. Discs don't even look good on a road bike, something to be seen only on MTB's and Hybrid. Not a fast light Road Machine
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedI wonder when I'll be able to replace the mechanical discs on my caadx?
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
Yep right, you know what you are talking about. What rubbish. When you have actually ridden a road bike with discs, then you can make statements like above.

Come out with me when it's bucketing down: Your roadie, my Avid BB7r'd commuter. Side by side at 30km/h. You call the stop. I've got a small piece of yellow plastic to say that I'll hit zero velocity before you do. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
You probably would, but happy not to carry all that weight as long as I have a safe stop.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
2. Points made First- Weight Second- Cosmetic-Looks None of these have anything to do with trying a road bike with Disc.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedThe extra distance it'll take you in the wet might make ALL the difference to whether it's a safe stop.

Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedPoor WWs. +1
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedWeight is overrated in the real world. Aero is more of a problem but I doubt any of us could ride a bike fast enough on the flat to notice the difference (all other thing being equal). They might be for you in the dry, but caliper rim brakes haven't had great braking performance for me when operated from the hoods. You probably don't ride in the wet, so none of this applies to you anyway. Subjective. I slightly prefer the look of discs when done well. This will probably grow on me more in the future. But I'm too pragmatic to highly value looks anyway.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedSo long as the rims don't have those horrible obvious rim brake tracks, I think discs look purposeful and awesome

Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedOnce those skinny little tyres are sliding in the wet it doesn't matter much whether you have rim brakes, discs, cable or hydro
Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedSure it does. You'll be able to modulate better with the hydros to start the wheel spinning again without losing much braking distance. And since with hydros you have more modulation in the first place, you are less likely to lock to begin with. There is a reason why cars, motorcycles and MTBs have had them for years. In years to come we might even see road bike ABS. Below is the road.cc version of the article. More comments than the BikeRadar version. http://road.cc/content/news/76756-revea ... are-coming
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spotted
Close the thread. Endgame sequence finalised. For those of us HARDMEN who still get their kit on in the wet, discs are a winner. Honestly, I would invest in Zipps knowing that I won't wear out a brake track. Can't do that with regular brakes.
Re: Shimano Di2 hydraulic road disc brakes spottedI am too far past it to worry about being elite speed, but I would love a fairly light road bike with discs just for the stopping improvement; particularly coming down places like MT Coottha and mt Nebo. The MTB discs give me so much more comfort than holding the rim brakes for those long descents... Perhaps a di2 cyclocross bike is what I am really looking for...
