Hi folks,
I was out for a ride this afternoon, and about an hour or so into the ride my Garmin Edge 500 kept on auto-pausing and auto-resuming at random while moving. The longest auto pause was maybe 5 seconds, during which time the speed display was 0km/h. I've never seen this behaviour before. My first thought was "it's a couple of years old, acting up, time to think about a new one". But then my ride partner with the same model said his was doing exactly the same thing and it was the first time he'd noticed it too. I can accept one playing up, but two playing up exactly the same way at the same time? GPS satellites acting up?
Anyone else ever seen anything like this? Perhaps spookily, anyone seen something like this that only started this afternoon?
Cheers,
Simon.

Mine does it from time to time, Garmin 500, usually at the beginning of a ride though.
I have no idea why, have you got the latest upgrades for your device? Might help.
Also what is the speed that auto start/resume is set for? Is it too high?

I've had the same issue both with a 705 and an 800. It's a known issue all over the garmin forums. I think it might be that it's not picking up from the spoke sensor because it is misaligned and so it reverts to picking up from GPS and is affected by atmospheric conditions. Jiggling with the sensor has always fixed the problem for me.......eventually

Batteries in the cadence sensor I bet. Check it's triggering properly as well - it can take only a minor jarring to make the spoke magnet no longer align.
Ha ha ha! Cookies on dowels.

My spoke magnet was slightly askew, so I've straightened that. The battery in the cadence sensor read 3.00V on my multimeter and a new spare I had lying around was 3.27V, so I've replaced that.
Fingers crossed that everything is back to normal tomorrow!
Thanks,
Simon.

I forgot to post a follow-up after my ride(s). I've been on two rides since changing the battery in the sensor and re-aligning the magnet and haven't noticed any further problems.
So far so good!

Had same issue. My sensor was out of alignment. Press reset on sensor then rotate crank (if you have cadence sensor) & wheel (speed magnet). They should both light up on rotation. Mine is fixed.
