Results - Bike Brands owned by Members

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Jul 03, 2013 1:21 am

The Bike Brands owned by members thread is popular and a tally of bike brands.

I have collated the results and presented this visually. If you want to add your brands - do it in that thread, this thread can be for discussing the tally.

Image

Tips
• The pie chart is anti-clockwise, Giant first (dark blue) then Avanti (orange).
• In the legend read the first row across Giant, Avanti, Trek, Specialized then the next row, Malvern Star, Repco etc.

The pie chart and brands represent 75% (875) of the all bikes.

Here the top brand percentages overall (of the 1167 bikes)
10.9% Giant
4.88% Avanti
4.37% Trek
3.86% Specialized
3.66% Malvern Star
3.60% Repco
3.17% Apollo

Interesting what does and doesn't match the 'ultimate guide' survey I conducted (that is currently in work).
We should be fair in noting that the tally in the forum has been prone to human error - and may also be skewed - but none-the-less, interesting to see.

I have one example of each of the top three brands in my garage. Go figure. :!:

I'm pretty amazed at how diverse the results are. The top 3 only account for 20% of all bikes. That's 80% of the market being split over 57 brands...

Three of my six strong quiver (Cooper, Voodoo, Reid) not included because there's not enough of them.

Should I feel excluded or exclusive?

Nice work tallying all that up. :)

Being colour blind I have no hope of making sense of that.

It is an eyeful though but enough to get an idea. There are a lot of single brands - so a few more numbers.

Total number of bikes: 1167
Total number of brands: 254

Total number of bikes in top 75%: 875
Total number of brands in top 75%: 60

Total number of bikes in remaining 25%: 292
Total number of brands in remaining 25%: 194

And just for fun, I will include the entire list - the advantage here is that it is sorted numerically first, then alphabetically:
