Big reward for froome

Postby gorilla monsoon » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:10 am

Christopher Froome's Sky team is sponsored by Jaguar Cars, which also supplies the team cars (Jaguar Sportbrake station wagons) for TdF. To celebrate his win Jaguar presented him with a new F-Type sports car decorated in "celebratory livery composed of images taken by Team Sky fans".
The car is dark green (or maybe black) with a broad yellow stripe over the nose and bonnet.
I'd like to say "lucky bugger" but he worked hard for it.

I hope he packs his bike in the back...
Those Jags are almost guaranteed to break down sooner or later.

With the pay he's on he would be able to buy something much nicer than that.

Kinda feel sorry for him.

Most likely British Racing Green, a thousand different shades depending on the way the light hits it. It's lovely.
+1 on earning it.

Confirmed as black. Team Sky colour. It has red upholstery, too. Noice!

Car is nice...wish my job had perks like that

This Daily Mail article

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/others ... ds-newsxml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

has a pic of Froome, their words "striking image". I simply looked at it and thought, so thats where kids get the idea for stick people.

It just amazes me how people with basically skin around their skeletal structure can produce so much power and speed for such a long time. And please dont get me wrong, I am not trying to say anything about PED's or such...not even trying to go there. He looks as if he would be hard pressed to lift a wet paper bag.

And will he get a knight hood???

Asked for comment Bradley Wiggins was reported to have said "I didn't get a %&*&*%^ car when I won the Tour de #%^$ France"

That's because no-one buys them. Haha
Easy to have ZERO warranty claims when no ones buying or driving the product.

I wonder what the ratio of ownership is 100 Volkswagen sales to 1?

Did you by chance fork out for a jag and are now regretting your purchase and trying to defend it?
Don't worry, at least you'll look cool broken down on the side of the road. Haha

Just taking the piss. :p

But the advertising on SBS made me believe skoda supplies all the cars for the TDF, have they been lying to me?

Skoda supplies all the Official cars (commissaires, neutral support, race doctor etc), teams usually have their own supplier, Citroens, Peugeots and Mercedes have traditionally been favoured due to their having a large (by euro standards) station wagon in their range.

...then sold them on not, not quite so many years ago...

... to Tata Motors, of India.

What could possibly go wrong with a car built in England, to Indian corporate standards?

I'd be insulted if I was Froome, to be given the V6 model instead of the V8. Sure, there's not much of him to move around, but if you're going to give somebody a luxury sports car, then at least you can give them the sporting model...

Yes, I agree. 250 kilowatts is not nearly enough.

So, will Froome get a knighthood this year like Wiggo did last year?

So Johnny Hoogerland could have a scar in the shape of a Skoda logo?

Wiggo won the olympics too and became the UK's most successful Olympian last year so I wouldn't automatically assume Froomedog will become a Sir this year.

If I was Froome I would be demanding that an Olympics be held again this year then to ensure the knighthood hahaha...how ripped off would you feel, just because an Olympics was held and that the same year you didnt win the Tour simply because of team orders despite being able too

'Having had a pop at Walsh's skills of research, Digger continues: "What part of Froome going up mountains faster than known dopers do you find so believable David? Froome would need to wheelie up the Alpe, signing b-----s, talking on his mobile, before Walsh would have doubts."'

Only just OT but, I think knighthoods are perhaps given just a bit too freely these days, it's diluting the importance of it a bit. Sure Wiggo has achieved a lot and not to take anything away from that but should that be enough to be called a Sir? Surely an OBE or MBE is sufficient, and the knighthoods can be reserved for those who have made a truly exceptional contribution to society.
"I must be rather keen on cycling"- Sir Hubert Opperman.
