Haha. Fix up the seat and a change of bars and it would be a pretty sweet bike. It would be one of those bikes that looks better in person than on a computer screen.

But i'd say it shows the difference between concept and execution, the softride and y-foil look awkward to me, whereas the falco just gets it right.

SPuDs, a saddle stolen from a German "bike ballet" machine and the stem higher than Cheech and Chong on a good day.

I can accept ugly if it fills the "purposeful" mould nicely (See Giant Trinity) but you couldn't pay me enough to make me to go berko on THAT with an angle grinder...

Triathletes loved it.
1) It looks hideous. Ugly bikes get more broadcast coverage on the lava fields of Kona.
2) It had numbers for a name.
3) At the time it was easily light enough to throw on the concrete in the transition area (and looking like that who'd notice any difference?).
3) It was as expensive as anything else out there.
It ticked all the boxes.

I know that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' but I find it really strange how some seem to be so one-eyed.

I can see beauty in many bikes, including those that I do not ride, nor even wish to ride. A bike that is built with quality, works well to perform its design function, and is broadly comfortable to ride is something that I believe has intrinsic beauty. Heck, even though I loath the TT/Triathlon bikes, and some of the anonymous, repetitive-design carbon road bikes, I can still see some basic beauty in many of them.

Like I said earlier, fit for purpose and likely to excel at that.

I think your carbon wunderbike Falco is going to be really crap at carrying my 25kg of camping gear across the high country gravel roads. So what? Horse for courses.

Personally I don't actually like the look of the Guv'nor very much - seems all too gangly and limiting. I prefer the classic style and thorough all-weather equipment of the Sovereign.

That Dawes Clubman is really nice though.
