Any bike that looks as though it belongs in a sci-fi movie has no place in a "Beautiful Bikes" thread.

A "Bombastic Bikes" thread, yes, but not here.

A "beautiful bike" must (in the eye of the beholder, at least) be beautiful, but also a bike!

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm not sure some of the items posted here even qualify as bicycles. :?

If I had the money then I would be looking at one of these, saw it pop up on my Facebook feed as my LBS is building one for a customer.

IP and RonK; agent-provocateurs. What you guys are doing is tantamount to bullying! Meanies.

Although the concept of the bike below has always intrigued and appealed to me, you'd have to be a sociopath to find it beautiful, don't you think? And why does the front brake cable have to take that circuitous route?

Modern track:

There's loads of others. Fit for purpose makes a bike great, regardless of appearance. Road, track, MTB, race, commute, whatever.

Yes I do like it :-) I'd love to be involved in this as a sport. I'd even love to spend an afternoon over a beer or two chatting all things HPV racing.

I'm in Brisbane though :-( So I guess I'll have to make do with following up via your youtube vids / facebook page etc.

Well, since you liked it so much, here's another picture and some history.

Image

"Benjamin Bowden introduced this futuristic "Spacelander" bicycle design in 1946. It wasn't actually manufactured and sold until the 1960s, when it was called the Bowden, and made by Bombard Industries of Grand Haven, Mich. It has a fiberglass body, battery-operated lights, a push-button horn and a chrome-plated rear carrier. It came in five cool-sounding colors: Outer Space Blue, Cliffs of Dover White, Meadow Green, Charcoal Black and Stop Sign Red. The bicycle turned out to be expensive to make and only 522 of them were produced. This one sold at a Wright auction in Chicago for a bone-shaking $43,750."

Both my Fixed bikes have 3 speeds (count 'em!)
There's stopped, uphill and downhill :D

Thats more like two speeds. Isn't "uphill" the same as stopped on a fixie ?

Depends on the hill...
I can't crest Yellowgum Boulevard on the Reid (75GI) but I'm close on the Cooper with about 62GI. Streetview heading NW...

Anything Merckx rode was beautiful. On his Faema at PR 1969.
Merckx was meticulous in his bike setup and presentation. I love the simple red and white of the bike and that iconic jersey. Nothing in carbon can ever approach the beauty of hand made lugged steel machines. These images from his golden era had an enormous influence on young cyclists. One young guy in our club was so smitten with Merckx he had his frame painted exactly as above and imported a hitherto unseen Campagnolo gruppo at great expense for the time. He even had his hair styled like Merckx. Fortunately he could carry it off and later raced very successfully overseas on the track and road, at times against his hero. Merckx considers him still a good friend.

Actually, fixeie do have three speeds, but you just didn't mention the other one, being "crashed".

When I get home, I'll post a pic of mine to show you I'm just yanking yer chain. It is still sporting the evidence of the statement above.

Hmm, you could be onto something with that, even if there is one or two carbon bikes that aren't completely nauseating. Maybe ugly bikes are a 21st Century thing? Although the Cannondale below tests my patience a little.
