Hello there, friends !
I am a new migrant just arrived and am keen on taking up cycling. I am mainly interested in commuting from Karrinyup (WA) to Perth;
The place where I come from there are no bicycle paths and riders usually follow the highway.
Can you veterans please let me know the basic dos and donts of cycling here. I have gone through the dip website and learnt a few basic things, however I am not sure whether its okay to follow the highway on my way to the city ??
Any inputs will be much appreciated for this nube
Thanks in advance, guys !
Sommy
Completely new, please help !!

G'day Sommy,
You'll find a bike track running along side or near the freeway where you are. Follow the other riders and you'll be fine.
You won't be able to ride on the freeway or the edge of it though.
More information can be found on the DPI site here.
Cheers,
Graeme

Welcome sommy, where abouts are you from?
Just a simple tip from me, remember to keep left on the bike paths and be careful to check over your shoulder before you pull out to overtake slower riders. That should keep you out of trouble.
Great information to be had on the link Graeme posted. The PDF files of the bike paths around Perth are most helpful. I would definitely recommend plotting out a route that keeps you off the busier roads even if it means riding a bit further. A lot of people complain about the bike paths in Perth, but coming from over east, I reckon they're great, especially up and down the fwy and around the river. Have fun, stay safe.
