If cyclist dismount signs were only put in places were it's necessary (very slow speed) they would likely be followed. As is it seems like the go to thing to improve safety.

On my commute there's dismount signs along a bikepath at road crossings.

I ignore dismount signs. As an amputee cyclist it's far safer for me and others that I remain on the bike.

The stench of insurance companies is strong here.
Any problems involving riders in the area and the council has an out.
Makes ignoring maintenance issues a lot easier too
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Indeed. I've been through a few times since the work was done and hopefully the flooding is a thing of the past.

Interesting pole. Instead of simply using a straight one placed in directly below the place they wanted the traffic light, they have had the thought to have the base in alignment with the other poles

Then add a slippery steel plate & idiots pulling out from the servo without giving way & it is just a joy to behold

& people wonder why I ride downhill on the road surface.

Not my photo, but these were placed at regular intervals along Sydney Rd, Brunswick in the wake of Alberto Paulon's death in 2015.

So who exactly should be looking?

^^^^loving it but thing that worries me about those signs is that some drivers will eventually use a very limited number of brain cells to decide that if the sign is absent then cyclists can't take the lane...followed by a rant that wastes more time than slowing for 2 seconds

meanwhile

I don't have a problem with that sign. Roads get closed for public events, so why not bike paths?

I do have a problem with the same sign still being active on Friday though...

and walking a bike through there! How does that pass risk assessment?
Lucky those 'Cyclist Dismount' signs are guide signs only, not regulatory.
