I was determined to ride far today and the weather was in my favour so I set out to complete the Strava Gran Fondo 4. It was a great day on the bike but with a stiff headwind for most of the morning and undertaking my longest ride yet for the year, I was beginning to feel it by the 100km mark.

The last 10 kms were killing me but I refused to give up, it was only when I got home and uploaded the ride that I realised the fondo challenge was 130km and not the 140km I had decided it was - character building in any case :-)

On my bicycle each wheel does 6k, making it 12k all up. Colin only has only got one ... wheel, so it is easier for him as he only does half the distance
I thought it was just Colin's way of saving on tyres but he's very clever, he has halved the rolling resistance :)

Well done Grant, great effort...and a bonus 10km to help knock off the deficit.

I've been a bit absent lately but some impressive rides and km's happening, nice work fellas.

Nice Colnago Breezer, are the chain rings 105?

Always a good idea to add extra kilometres for those gran fondo rides! Just in case you end up with 129.8km instead of 130. Great work! 8)

I'm at 5,617.4 km according to Strava. I did a painful 62km trainer session on Thursday down in Athlete Lab, on Friday I clocked 82.4km and today 76.6km.

I'm at 5,794km according to Strava - so I guess that sometime during the week I should hit 6000km barring any unforeseen problems.

I likely won't do anything more than 1 hour riding tomorrow at a very easy speed. By my reckoning I've done riding on a bike or a trainer every day from the 8th of this month. The long weekend was great for riding, but today I could feel the fatigue a bit. :) Today I did manage 74.2km with 627m elevation, but at the start it was cold enough I had trouble warming up - it even seemed like I'd have a calf cramp.. It threatened the whole ride - but fortunately it didn't go.

Other than that, I can't complain. :)

Sounds like the conditions I had to put up with here in Canberra when I did it yesterday. Congrats on the ride :)

6K Club - 2014

Postby kb » Tue Apr 22, 2014 1:29 am

128km for me Easter Monday. It was supposed to come to 132km but I substituted one descent and climb for a shorter, steeper one. Oh well, I'll have to have another crack at it. <insincere>what a shame</insincere>

Day 22 of 30 days of biking completed
Have clocked up 174km between yesterday and this morning so far...and I still have a commute home tonight plus 2 more days commuting with a Mt Cootha detour tomorrow if time permits and then up the coast for a long weekend which include the Noosa century. I should clock up 500km for this week which is well above my record of 382km.
The legs are looking forward to holidays next month...

Well done cancan64 & kb, sounds like you are smashing it.

I have slipped a bit behind on my goal to make 1,000km for the month and having dropped a day in April I am determined not to miss 2 goals in the same month. Things are a bit quiet this week so the plan is to ride 50-60 km Monday to Thursday, then Friday's retro ride should see me make the grand fondle and put me back on track - if I achieve it, it will be my first 400+ km week so I suspect towing the little boy to daycare on Monday might be hard work.
Anything you can do, I can do slower

Well done guys and good luck Bruce.

The 30 days of biking is certainly doing the trick, I've knocked 400km off my deficit and more importantly I am getting the legs back which augers well for the rest of the year.

I think I will be back on track tomorrow thanks to 30 days of biking.

Riding the back way to Husky then Husky Ferry across to Myola should give me enough to crack 2000kms for the year

And don't forget I only have one wheel to keep in a straight linel.

Just that one wheel is a bugger. I dunno how you guys get TWO to go inthe direction you want. I agree - y'all should be allowed to record double what you do, :D

I've had a week off - almost - due to nightshift this week, but will race tomorrow, so may manage to redeem myself.....
