Sort of. GPS elevation is pretty poor. Horizontal resolution is usually 5-25m for me but the errors seem to average rather than accumulate. Elevation changes on a dedicated device are generally barometric rather than through the GPS which means pretty good resolution but a slight lag and global drifting with changing weather. I believe most of the discrepancies between say an Edge 500 and corrected elevation are due to detail and what level of smoothing is employed. See also "coastline paradox".
I wouldn't necessarily take either too seriously but trust my Garmin a little more in general.
