Went 11s 105 on the mighty Ribble.
Kept the existing 6600 chainset.
New longer (120 up from 110) stem with slightly more angle.
New bar tape and a cheapo 2nd hand ebay wheel.
A few hiccups with that wheel though. It wasn't specified whether it was shimano or campy freehub when I bought it. I asked a question whether it was 10 or 11 sp and he said 11. I assumed 11s shimano.
I was frazzled from bloody Melb traffic when I picked it up and didn't notice the obviously different hub.
Went to fit a cassette on it yesterday and the penny dropped
Anyway a number of calls to bike shops looking for a hub or cheap 11s wheel was no good.
I dropped it in along with a Fulcrum racing T to Brock at Bikeforce Bendigo to order in a new freehub . Turns out he had an 11s freehub without pawls but the pawls on my racing T freehub fit.
15 min later all good :D

Jammed 2 bikes in the back of the wagon for the trip up to Bright tomorrow. :D

I would never put them on the roof and don't like rear racks either. Just the two of us so we can load them inside.

Still on the Cervelo.
I'm riding the Ribble to work in the morning.
I will try them on there now that it's 11s. On one of our faster bunch rides and see how they go.
I kind of like a 3k wheelset (not that I paid that for them) on a 200 dollar frame.

Nice :)
I'm going to put the cervelo on the back seat and try the ribble on the floor behind the front seats if it fits.

Adjusted the bar angle down a bit and straightened the left hand sti lever. Amazing how much slightly out of kilter contact points can annoy you.
5800 feels the same as 6800 to me. 105 is great value imo

Rode with my newly installed Italian Bike Mirror for the 1st time this morning.

Awesomeness!

Makes me wonder why I had it in the cupboard for almost two years...

Here ya go Biker ;)

It went well.
I climbed with the same guys I normally do on the bunch ride today.
I just grovelled on the back on some rollers coming back in. I was tailend Charlie but some younger blokes than me were spat out, so happy with that.
It went surprisingly well $200- frame with $3k wheels
The Cervelo is a touch better on the high-speed stuff but there ain't a huge difference.1/2 a gear maybe?
I like the slow steering of the Ribble better. Much easier to ride hands-free. I don't need a bike that steers super quickly.
Settles it for me. Most of your speed upgrades are in the wheels.
But as a few people said "it's down to your legs."
My comment was "yes unfortunately for me that is true"

Clearly depends on which aero wheels. A skinsuit is cheaper.

I've got a skinsuit but I'm not wearing it on a bunch ride
They did say vs a relaxed fit jersey and shorts.
The jersey in the clip looked about 2 sizes too big.
Who wears a flappy thing like that if you are trying to chase speed?

26km ride in the Vale 6.30am today ... Just got back from an absolutely cracking Saturday morning ride on the Velo. Temp on my Garmin said 2c in the Vale - mist everywhere and I stopped to take some film footage of how lovely the peach dawn appeared amongst the primordial rising mist banks and the mountains they clung to. Also got the new Cycling Jersey on today, first chance to wear this one ... really cosey on a freezing morning and kept me warm. Shame about the legs, I only had bib shorts and no leg warmers! So the socks came up, fashions be damned ...

Coldest start this year for me. Six degrees and still in shorts. Time for the tights soon.
Glorious sunrise over Bancroft Bay, Metung on the Gippy Lakes.
I should have taken a piccie.

Made this little ramp for the kids today after being inspired by Youtube. It also works well for adults to get a bit of air on their mountain bikes :D

Garmin 510 on/off button.

The rubber perished a few weeks ago so I needed a fix to operate the small button deep inside on the ICB. Using a fingernail or twig was getting old.

Had a look online and the buttons are available out of the US.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Rubber-cap- ... 1874340808

But I couldn't be bothered ordering at this point, and thought I could McGuyver something satisfactory out of silicone rubber.

The intent was to stick a hard plastic ball shape against the ICB button. The ball would extend out of the hole enough for a finger to engage. I would then silicone inside and out to hold the ball and silicone in place.

But the rubber glues and silicones I have are past their use-by date, and semi hard, and didn't cut it.

Anyway, it then occurred to me to stick a small round rubber tube patch over the plastic ball, but I wasn't sure how well my glues would bind rubber to the plastic garmin case.

Final solution is a Park Tools glueless patch which adheres to the case really well and should last 6-12mths.

The button now works better than the original because the plastic ball protrudes out a bit further.

:) yes it's good to get the creative juices flowing coming up with a fix...and Ben Hur was on in the background for inspiration :D
(gf was out with friends)

I'd been contemplating a solution for a few weeks and it didn't evolve much past sticking the ball in and wrapping insulation tape right around the lateral edges of the unit. Then last night I had considered wrapping clear contact plastic right around the top half of the unit, including the screen, but thought this lacked 'subtlety'.

When I thought of the tube patch, it was a Eureka moment.....to my mind :)
I might actually have a go at that next weekend as it would be a cleaner look....and this morning I've been thinking about sculpting something out of 1 or 2 layers of bicycle tube. If I get it right, it should stay inside the hole without glue, and resemble the original from the outside. Wouldn't be too difficult with a dremel.

I'm betting this is just the beginning. You'll be thinking of something three times the size next, or your kids will be! :)

Once my son gets fast enough to get airborne I imagine he'll be asking for an upgraded ramp :D

Today (Easter Monday) I managed to ride again - making it three consecutive days for riding which I don't think I've managed in just over a year!

Aerobic fitness is slowly coming back a 3/4 effort on the flat sees me bust through 28km/hr average and considering it's been 3 weeks since I last turned a pedal in anger I'll call it a base to work up from :D

took advantage of a customer free easter and rode Kalgoorlie to northam(520 kms). great 4.5 days on the road. after 37 years of driving it I finally know it better. one highlight was seeing 2 rare mallee fowl standing on the side of the road. I swear one said to the other" wow look at that a cyclist on the road!!!) :)

iRamp 2.0 - I shallowed out the steep departure angle, added some internal bracing for the slopes, and vajazzled it with some paint I had in the shed.

Image

I call it the iRamp because I used my work iPhone to help measure the angles. If you swipe right from the compass app you get a spirit level that shows degrees of tilt :D

it's still less than two feet wide so it's not too heavy to move or too bulky in the shed. It's an incentive to hit it straight or fall off the sides :D
