Not today, but Monday. Was stopped at the rear of a tram, hand on the tram for support, waiting for doors to close. Once they closed, I moved off, aaaand *crunch* *tyre rub*. I looked down and the RHS chainstay had snapped. Walked the bike to the side of the road, called the wife for a pickup, inspected the damage. It looked like the wheel came out of the dropouts after the frame fractured, given that the hanger and rear mech were both intact.

I refitted and got my 3T Eye working again on my Trek. That should be seen as an accomplishment in itself. It has to be one of the most painful devices in the world to get working properly. It's a wonder why anyone uses one. It's good when its set up, its just a total pain in the backside to set up. I worked out how to get it to upload to Strava just the other day (the 3T app is broken). Now it is set up. I'm thinking about getting a 3T ARX II stem. to mount it.

Changed wheels (alloy from another bike), swapped a power meter onto that bike as well and getting to grips with a Garmin 520.

The lack of touch screen is infuriating, things that should be easy are frustratingly slow to do, but it is configured how I want it. And seeing the gears displayed on the screen is a bit of a novelty (it discovered SRAM E-Tap on my bike) Seeing the gear battery indication though is useful. Phone integration is also quite a different thing coming from an ancient Garmin 800.

Otherwise just riding heaps.

It always makes me wonder why they went from a touch screen with the Garmin 510 to a non-touch screen with the 520. For a computer that is that complex you would think it would have a computer. My 3T Eye by comparison is just a display for my iPhone which is running all the complex ANT+ stuff (speed, power, cadence and so on) safely in my jersey pocket. But yeah, to have a full featured bicycle computer without a touch screen, it seems like a step backwards for Garmin.

Rode 30km to LBS that also has a large online Presence and walked out after waiting 20 mins to get served. Looking online at their FB site and also Google reviews I am not the first to experience this, but it will certainly be my last because I will never go there again.

On the plus side it was a nice day for a ride, especially as this is my second "real" ride back after breaking my ribs 3 weeks ago. :D

First outing on my "new" ride (2011 Merida MATTS TFS 300-D)...about 22km around the Penrith area with a little bit of light off road, and got home in good time before the heat came.

Very tidy bike, although the handlebars are quite narrow (620mm) and I'm checking out upgrades. Everything else works well...I can certainly feel the benefit of higher spec derailleurs (Deore XT/Alivio v Acera/Altus that I had on my old Giant...plus the better gear/brake levers and the brakes themselves), and I'm keen to take it off road a little more when the temp drops.

I rode around in the rain today, I'm getting sick of the last 3 days of torrential downpours.

Added Shimano 105 calipers (NOS) to the 90s Shogun training bike. Which of course meant test ride. Love 'em..

swapped out the knackered Conti XKing racesport 2.4 for a Xking protection 2.4... somehow the new one is much, much narrower...oh well.
Gave bike a quick wash and chain clean/lube
Took off dropper post and put back on rigid post.

Not mine but I recommissioned my daughters bike after a little over 18 months boxed storage under the house, she's found a better place to live closer to her workplace 8)

New old 6770 parts for today. I'm rebuilding my Trek 1500 SLR currently to internal DI2 spec with internal cable routing "drillum" as they say. The race bike project bike has been at a stand still for a while as I've had to source 6770 rear mechs... Seems you can't revert 6870 rear derailleurs back to 6770 anymore :( Had to source a second hand DI2 rear derailleur... blah... What an annoying thing for Shimano to do.

I did a thing by fixing the old mans geometry on my Trek. The stem was mounted upside down... [in my best Mr. Squiggle voice.] I flipped the stem tonight and the next thing I'm going to flip are the 6700 shifters for 6770 DI2 shifters. Fixing the worlds problems one thing at a time. The 2006-07 Discovery Team bike is coming to life and I even have a 3T stem with the proper Eye mount on it. However, I'm waiting until I get a set of 3T bars that match it and a 3T seat post also... Too many things to fix... Not enough time.

Rotated the tyres on my road bike, first time in my life I've ever had to do that :D

Also while they were sans tube and tyre, I weighed the wheels with QR skewers and disc rotors attached (Giant PR-2 alloy wheels) - 1.095kg front, and 1.305kg rear (1.625kg incl cassette).

New chain day.
Bought a chain that came with a Shimano quick link. Never again, give me the KMC any day.
Nothing quick about the Shimano one, very tight to lock in place!
