Hiring a bike in South Australia

Postby simonkeen » Mon Feb 17, 2014 5:48 am

I am a pomme (felt I had to declare that up front). I am planning to visit South Australia, mainly within 500km of Adelaide, and I want to hire a road bike for a couple of weeks while I am there. I have found various web sites but I am a bit surprised by the need to almost buy the bike over teh 2 weeks. In Europe and the US you would pay around AUD180-200 a week for a reasonable aluminium framed Tiagra/105 equipped bike but the ones I have found online in SA appear to be 3 times that price.

So I thought I would ask fellow cyclists for their recommendation as to where I should hire a bike. I am an old git (54) and not an all out racer (sportives mainly up to 150-250km mainly) and ride a Giant Defy 1, so anything like that would be fine.

Many thanks in advance.

Simon

If you don't want a drop bar roadie, BikeSA has a bike hire scheme, free (family style bike? with basket) if you just want it for a day, conditions apply.

There is also multi-day hire, flat bar road bikes, but its not free http://www.bikesa.asn.au/RiderInfo_Bike ... rTermHires" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I must admit I was looking for a drop bar road bike. I like to get 50+km in before my wife gets up.
