Sounds like a good set up. Maybe Christopher could hire it for a forum 'meet and greet'

Although it's a long way for many, Canberra would be a great place for a 'meet and greet' - there are good facilities, the climate's great and the riding is as varied as you could possibly want it to be.
So, here's a tentative thought - what about a get together in Canberra? My first thoughts are to nominate Easter (6th - 9th April) or either side of Anzac Day (21st -25th April or 25th - 29th April) in 2007.
Let me know how silly you think the idea is - maybe it might even happen!

I think to make it fair to all, we should hold it somewhere central to all, and we should ride our bikes there.

How about Alice Springs. It has a Casino, lots of pubs, and is pretty close to central Australia.

It should be a flat ride to get there too

Our big bike events are:
- the Scott (previously Mont) 24 Hour - a 24 hour mtb endurance event - in October,
- the Tour de Femme - women only - in November,
- the Brindabella Classic - events for bmx, mtb and road bikes - Nov / Dec (this year, it starts this weekend), and
- the Commonwealth Bank Classic usually finishes here, but it wasn't on this year.
I've been thinking about some rides that we could do - both road and mtb - and accommodation options, but thought I would get an idea of interest first. I'll post some suggestions across the weekend.

Funny you should say that - my sister-in-law is the manager of the Todd Tavern (and my brother is the yardman, their son works the bar and their daughter runs the souvenier shop) - we could stay there!

And with the Ghan leaving from Adelaide, it's practical (if pricey) to travel up with bikes.

Canberra is doable by car for most of us. The sandgropers will have problems but they will anyway unfortunately (either by the distance they have to travel or by few of us being able to get to WA).

As a long time aeromodeller, may I suggest we plan this around a caravan park. All parks have cabins and onsite vans. They are cheaper than motels (or should be, that's changing). BUT, the big thing about a caravan park is the community aspect. With everyone camped in the same area, kids can play in safety, us old geezers can sit together, drink intoxicating liquids and tell lies about our bikes and rides, and any wimmens silly enough to come with us can get together and talk about whatever it is that wimmen talk about when men are telling lies about the things that men tell lies about.
Seriously, the community aspect of a caravan park does work.

How typical, then why not Tasmania then?

Why would you drive your car to Canberra, What's wrong with riding there?

Caravan Park idea sounds good though. We'll bring the bar fridge We should have one fitted into a BOB trailer by then.
