Buy now or wait for mid year sales?

Postby The_Eggman » Mon Apr 07, 2014 5:29 pm

After last weekend's sale. I'm n=0.

I'm all over the Sydney Athlete Lab http://sydney.athlete-lab.com , so I'm still getting a fix of sorts.

If you were in my boat would you hang out for the mid year sales, or are they quite unreliable in terms of discount and what the discount applies to? If waiting means I'll get Ultegra rather than 105, I'm tempted to wait, but if all in end up doing is saving 50 bucks, I'd rather buy now. Just to complete the picture, Trek Domanes, Cannondale Synapses, Giant Defy Advanced and Focus Cayos are all on the short list and my budget is 2500ish. Thoughts?

If you're a common size (medium or large), don't wait. They tend to sell out first, often before the new season models are launched, therefore are less likely to be around when things are getting discounted to clear.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Chances are I'll take and M or L in most bikes, so I might pull the lever now.

Anyone else got some mid-year sale bike buying experiences?

Most shops will be doing 20% off minimum, maybe 30-50% depending how popular the model is. Particularly the high end stuff. If you want to spend 2k now, you might get DA instead of 105 if you spent 3k in July. I would wait.

Ah, you too? I'm also a member of that place. :)

I'd just buy now - see if you can negotiate the price down a bit. It can be done.

I think Freddy Mercury proffered the best approach to this dilemma when he sang:

I want it all
I want it all
I want it all
And I want it now

Trek will almost certainly have a Tour sale.

So will they all...but what will actually be on sale? There's sales and then there's sales.
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

My advice Shop around now find the best deal and if you are really keen on the bike buy it. Its not like you are going to save thousands on $2500 bike only hundreds. The enjoyment you will get out of having it now than rather later will be worth a couple of hundred anyway, Life is just too short
