Limited edition/design focused cycle kit makers

Postby nezumi » Tue Dec 23, 2014 2:12 pm

So, by chance the other day I found out about a brand of cycle kit I'd never heard of, and I wondered how many smaller places there are out there that make cycle kits - so I thought I'd start a comprehensive list. As far as I am aware, most of these are Australian companies.

This is in alphabetical order, and will be updated as people add replies. If people have comments on where the clothes are designed and made, and think it's worthwhile including those, then I'll add them.

4Shaw
A'qto
Attaquer
Babici
Black Sheep Cycling
BNA Forums kit
Cycology
Fiasco Ciclismo
Fondo (Women's specific brand)
Fyxo
Hells 500 Store
Jaggad
Lapin
MAAP
OORR
Pedal Mafia
Pedla
Polka Customs
Road and Dirt
roxcycl
Spin Cycle Clothing
Stelf
Ten Speed Hero

4Shaw is another prominent one, though they are more focused on socks.

Jakazni on the Gold Coast do plenty of cycle kits. Good gear, recently did the Tour of Tamborine jersy. That's the only one I can recall at the moment. https://www.facebook.com/JAKAZNI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Attaquer decided this year to bump their kits up by aprox $100 a set. Was disappointed.

Pedal mafia do some cool gear.

I am noticing an absurd price premium on some of these brands - I might do up something showing the price of bib-knicks/jersey/kit for each, if I can be bothered. :P

Hmmm, looks like I can no longer edit the first post. Chris @AUbicycles, can you help?

I was going to add Pedal Mafia tp the list.

Draft and format a replacement opening post and PM it to any supermod on deck with a link to this thread and it'll get done pretty quickly.

Great idea for a thread. I've been looking for a new jersey, but have failed to find about 80% of the sites you have listed!

Ruby - the rebeccajkaye site is cool. Just bought a poster. Thanks for the link!

That's the thing - most of them are hard to find purely by searching - it really seems to be word of mouth that drives their patronage, which can only be a good thing in terms of design quality - whether that translates to material/workmanship quality remains to be seen.

It is becoming a pretty competitive market!

Instagram is where most of us are getting our kits out on. Some are focusing on design, while others are focusing on performance. Its awesome to see so many Aus Kit companies getting out there.

Pedal mafia kit is awesome value. The most comfortable chamois of any of my kits hands down. Jay has always looked after me and express posts everything. As a bonus they are made in Australia without the wanky price tag to match ;)

Something I am looking for more and more now is a zippered pocket on the jersey.

Having had my keys come out on of a back pocket while descending, I am now very conscious of this.

A small gear pouch helps with this :)

Great post! I'm new to cycling and my biggest concern is looking good hahaha Would be great if someone could add a list of prices for a full kit. There is some super nice stuff but gee its expensive.

Any suggestions?

Cyclette is not jerseys, but is Australian and is women's fashion cycle wear.

Ground Effect is well known and very functional (rather than being about jersey design / style) alone. They are New Zealand, but make locally which is a bonus and I can highly recommend. They have larger production volumes so may not make the cut as a limited edition kit.

I like whisky jerseys so go to http://www.thecyclejersey.com/ and they work well.

Also liked the Horton Collection jerseys from Retro Image Apparel but their sizing was insane, very small. They seem to have gone now.

Haven't used them yet but they're on my short list for merino jerseys.
