Repairing carbon cranks?
Postby Chris4130 » Fri Feb 13, 2015 5:35 pm
Hi - I have picked up some 'new, 0km bike take offs' Centaur carbon cranks, but the previous owner made a mess of removing them and has damaged the carbon around the spindle (the only thing I can assume is they used multigrips instead of a crank puller...). Any adivce on repairs or even whether or not they are safe to use? Thanks

Flippin' heck, they did get a bit brutal on that!
The carbon is pretty solidly laid around the BB & pedal inserts in each end, so should be OK. But do seal the damaged area with clear nail polish or something similar to prevent moisture absoption into the laminate (which will weaken it), and keep an eye on it. If the damage spreads, replace it.

Whoever did that to those cranks deserves a kick up the proverbial.
