Info on Hallmark Bike by Keep Bros. and Wood Pty Ltd

Postby damienhipwell » Sun Mar 22, 2015 2:30 pm

I have an old kids bike that I am planning to restore. It's a 'Hallmark' by Keep Bros. and Wood from Melbourne. I'd like to find out what colour scheme and decals this bike would have had when it came out of the store.
I'm new to this site and can't see how to upload an image?
Any help on finding info would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Damien.

dunno the vintage of yours but heres one i acquired recently, the colour scheme would suggest early a little later than the one linked previously,(looks like early racing flag print style decals)

edit: looks like iam a year out, by the same token, can anyone shed some light on the approximate year of this bike?

ok, had a little bit of time to do some work on the old hallmark,
-cleaned up and replaced tube in front wheel,
-rebuilt the sturney archer rear AW hub, in the process found an extra spring in there not listed in any of the teardowns or exploded diagrams. waiting on some replacement spokes to reassemble the rear wheel with new tube.
-noticed 1969 stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket, i assume thats the build year? documentation suggests the S/A hub would have had a year stamp but is not the case.

really interested in what the deal is with the series of little holes on either side of the rear fender??? possibly had some kind of flaps on it? interesting the front one doesn’t have them??

I will also need to replace the cable stop on the lower down-tube as the plastic part that sits in the clip it deteriorated to the point it doesn’t hold the cable outer,

The holes held lengths of thin cord that radiated out from down near the hub.
The idea was to keep ladies skirts and dresses from tangling in the rear wheel

And men's coats. Those netting things are described as "skirt guards" or "coat guards" depending on the gender of the rider that the bike is designed for.

Just about the skirt guards , they would have been more like the bike shown here or perhaps white strings http://www.nma.gov.au/collections/highl ... is_bicycle

I was just looking for info on a Hallmark bike I got today, I can't decide if it's a path racer or out and out track bike just yet. Frame is only 2040 grams so it's meant for business. Fork steerer is engraved "IAN" I assume an IAN built it.
