Polishing your Bike

Postby Aushiker » Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:53 pm

G'day

Cleaning Froggie this morning and was thinking about whether to polish him or not. So my questions are:

(a) Do you polish you bike? If yes,

(b) what do you use for aluminium frames?

(c) what do you use for carbon frames?

Thanks
Andrew

I do polish my bike. I only have an aluminium frame and I was told to use Mr Sheen by Clarence St. It works nicely I'd say.

Agree. Mr Sheen sprayed on a clean clothe when the bike is nice and clean, wiped on.
Don't put it on the braking surfaces - it's slippery stuf.

Hint - it's slippery stuff - don't spray it liberally around indoors unless you want to skate across the floors, risk broken legs and have your partner yell at you. [I've been told]

Thanks for the comments, I feel quite happy being nerdy now :).

Has anyone used Mr Sheen on carbon fibre?

I had some car polish (liquid turtle wax) so used that today. Froggie looks nice and shiny now :)

I've used Mr Sheen on the CF specialized, no probs, similar disclaimer as above, don't get the stuff on braking surfaces.

Mr Sheen also stops the dirt from sticking, so you don't have to clean it as much.

When I was riding the alu Pinarello I'd use Maguires. The CF Kuota comes up a treat with anything, Mr Sheen, Mr Muscle, Spray n Wipe. Doesn't seem to make any difference, all good.

The best one is the Ti Opera frame though. No polishing required

Andrew,
Mr Sheen is the go, it was what we used in the bike shop 25 years ago and is still good.

I waxed my frame once using good old hard turtle wax. Man it was smooth and silky after that! :)
