Brakes are SRAM Force (saves $100). Rest is Red. Too wet to ride it today :(

Am planning on ordering some wheels from TWE shortly once I get a bit more cash from parts sales from my old bikes.
That is my old frame! Awesome bike man, I love BMC (although they are a touch rigid for my liking).

just curious, what caused the insurance claim? and why did you get less than the value of the bike?

That material in the joint is a stiff as. The bike is a 29er Farmboy Slingshot (renamed) & would have to be one of the stiffest hard tails I've ever ridden. Strange mixture of materials used on this frame with the rear triangle being 853 steel, top tube is aluminium & down tube...mmm clothes line. The idea behind the cable & spring is to improve pedalling efficiency much the same as Bio-pace or now Rotor rings. When you push down the spring compresses & as the foot reaches the bottom of the stroke the spring pushes out.

Best explained by the experts-----

------ About Slingshot Bikes

Quote----->In every pedal rotation of a traditional bike design there is a "dead" portion in the power stroke where the rider is getting no benefit from the expended effort. With the Slingshot design, we have provided the most efficient use of pedal energy throughout the entire pedal revolution resulting in greater speed with the same expended energy. This difference is achieved as pedal energy is stored in the spring compression - then released at the "dead" portion of the pedal stroke, effectively increasing the length of the power stroke. Any energy not going directly to the rear wheel (forward power) is momentarily stored, returning 100% in the "dead" portion of the power stroke. This returned energy helps balance the power through the pedal stroke and reduces the effect of the dead spot. The net effect is what we call "Sling Power".

Thus they were banned in road racing.
