Big Red Roubaix

Postby harmonix1234 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 12:47 pm

2012 Roubaix Elite (Compact)
First ever road bike, so don't really have anything to compare it to. Seems faster tan any mountain bike I have ever owned. Very comfy. Very happy with my 'commuter / weekend fling' bike.

Upgrades / Alterations.

RD - From Rival long cage to Force short cage
Wheels - From Fulcrum Racing 6 to ZIPP 60 (Currently switched out for my winter wheels Mavic Open Pro on Ultegra hubs 32 spoke)
Pedals - Ultegra Carbon
Chain - KMC ti Nitirde 10spd from SRAM rubbish that came stock
Brake pads - Koolstop Salmon from SRAM Stock
Cassette - Shimano Tiagra 12-26 (Yes, I prefer it over Dura ace because it has the most even spread range over anything else)
Skewers - Ultegra from Fulcrum factory skewers
GP4000s - (switch between these and Ultremo depending on weather)
Saddle - SMP Composit (Since witched out for a Romin)
All cables upgraded to Shimano Dura Ace
Stem - Switched out to Specialized 110mm from 100mm factory
Frame, Bars, Seatpost, Brakes and Shifters are only original parts

I know every ass is different, but how did you find the Composit coming from the Romin?

... I'm currently thinking of doing the same.

I love them both. Aside from the romin the composit is the most comfy saddle I have ever ridden. Between the two it's splitting hairs but in the end the romin wins for two reasons.
1- I like to move around. The composit has a tendency to 'lock you in' to one position only.
The romin has a little more playing area when climbing or really getting forward on the rivet.

2- endurance / fatigue. After 100/120kms I would start to get a sore lower back with the composit simply because of the road chatter. The seat was comfy, and never any discomfort with the sit bones or the 'demilitarised zone' so to speak, but the lack of padding gave the body a bit more vibration transference than I like in endurance rides.
The romin, longest ride I have done is 10 hours and I had no probs at all with it.
It's taken me 15 years and thousands of dollars but the SMP and specialized saddles are the best for me.
I'm not using the composit so feel free to borrow it for a week or so and see what you think.
You pay postage I'm happy to lend.
Mike.

Looks more like a child of the sixties trippin'-on-acid kinda colour scheme.
My kind of thing man. :D
(Except for the Purple Haze bar tape, Sky Blue would look better.)

Haha. Yeah I'm not sold on the bar tape. There is white leather tape under that and am going to try it with sky blue as I've got a matching Condor suede seat

Thank-you. PD-7810. Regarded by some as the best pedals ever made. They are NOS like 90% of the build.

It's hideous.

Well done, it's clear there has been a lot of effort into that one. Bar tape to match the saddle! Able to sneak in some white wall tyres? I've been digging them lately on the new Treks.

Cor blimey it's like Christmas in June with these prices. My JTS arrived today 3days sooner than expected. Image
We could end up with a Brisbane and Sunny coast CX league at this rate.
