You mean like 16km with 1220m+? That's what I did today in Bressanone - I'm still in Europe. I've got 94km tomorrow, and the sticker says:kb wrote:That, or a nutter like JVS whose preferred rides seem to 20km/1000m...Cyclophiliac wrote:116km/3360m+ ? Passo delle Erbe - 11.8km at 8%, Passo Gardena with 9km at 7%, and Passo Sella with 5km at 7%, then I will be in Canazei.
The two days so far this week I've done 4550m elevation. That's what this area of Italy is like, huge mountains everywhere.

Yes, lovely isn't it? I spent 3 days in Bormio in late June, and Bormio itself was just the start of our climbs, and it's at 1200m.g-boaf wrote:You mean like 16km with 1220m+? Two days with over 4500 is huge! I find it takes me a week or so to recover from those rides. How's the general higher altitude feeling?

I haven't noticed the higher altitude - but I think my power is slightly down. But however, I did alright on the first climb today. I'm nursing a foot injury however,so I'm just doing what I can to make it through to Venice. I'm not hammering anymore.kb wrote:Something like that. Today I added 3250m+ and 91.2km that I measured. Coming off the Sella, that was special. Gardena too, that's something I'll treasure. Seeing the writing all over the road with the famous names.

The Dolomites is on my to-do list. I'm hoping to do it next year. I want to revisit the French Alps and Pyrenees too, I definitely have some unfinished col business there, cols to revisit and cols I've not yet ridden.g-boaf wrote:I haven't noticed the higher altitude - but I think my power is slightly down. So in four days this week I've got 10645m elevation. Tomorrow is 184km at 2600m+, with 3600m-. It looks like the first descent will be neutral due to dangerous conditions, but the climb will certainly be full on, it's around 11km at average 5%, but there is a huge plateau at the end of it, so the actual up hill is more like 8% with bits getting up to 10-15% in places.

Stop it! You're making me even more green with jealousy.g-boaf wrote:I added 125km today with 3500m+, that was another monster day. Loved the first climb, the second one was a bit harder and the third was an absolute bugger of a thing with a monster 18% bit up near the end that seemed to go on forever. Bloody hard! And the fourth climb, some guys were sitting on my wheel for like ages, unknown to me and then when they saw the line decided to go full gas sprint... I'm like F that, that isn't happening - went straight back around them and got them easily before the timing line.

Even though my last trip to the Alps was only 2 months ago, I'm already planning next year's trip...

Same experience with my old Allegro Tour. The CAAD10 is comfortable to mid-70s and the R3 to mid-80s (and possibly faster, haven't had a chance to check )DavidS wrote:Rolled over 8,000 today by doing Amy's Grand Fondo. Way more climbing than I'm used to but a good ride. Closed roads are bliss. Going down the hills I found my bike seems to drift and possibly get a bit twitchy at about 60KMh so didn't get much faster than that (the Allegro is a steel frame touring bike). I'm a commuter so I don't get to speeds like that very often, maybe it was me but cross winds also seemed difficult at speed.

I should manage to be under 1000km behind by the end of the month.

I think the vertical metres might slacken off a bit, being back in Sydney means I'm just too lazy to go and ride 30km to get to proper hills. Overseas it was so nice just riding 3km and arriving at a big mountain range.

Oh, that was amazing - loved it. Aside from the drenching and freezing cold on day one, the rest was just riding on some of the most amazing roads and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery too.singlespeedscott wrote:How did you go in the Huate Route Dolomites g-boaf, I am assuming thats what you just did?
Everything I'd done to prepare for it was right on the mark. Even the steepest parts I encountered, they felt hard but not impossible and I had the right gearing so I could manage the steepest bits okay. Riding on terrible climbs and descents here in NSW was good preparation for over there. What they reckoned was a descent on a bad quality road, I thought it was rather smooth compared to some of the horrid rough descents I'd ridden ahead of it in sometimes scary crosswind conditions.
Getting over there a few days in advance was a good thing too. Although jet lag isn't a problem going over there (you reach the hotel at 6:00pm in time to eat, unpack and sleep), I did catch a minor cold virus probably from on the plane or one of the airports. Took some vitamin tablets from a local chemist and managed to fight it off before it got bad and even get some riding done in the days ahead of the event.
Highly recommended, it's a great event. Once you are over there, you just get to focus on enjoying the riding. It's a bit competitive, but not to the point of criteriums where people are yelling and fighting with each other. If you are up the pointy end though it's going to be hard work - the abilities and quality of the riders at the top end is very high, but they don't take it quite as seriously as a full race, except for the TT stage where a pretty expensive Tag Heuer watch was up for grabs.
I could easily imagine living in Brixen, that would be pretty nice. Nice riding around there and the town is great too.
Planning the next one already and maybe go up to Indonesia early next year via Singapore.

I might have been okay with 52-36 as well.

10k is a hard task master, doesn't take long for the KMs to catch up to you. Just have to be consistent and you'll get there.Mugglechops wrote:I have been trying to claw myself back after having 12 days off the bike in August.

Elevation is another matter, I'm used to 1000m/100km average, but since moving to Canada I haven't had more than 500m in a week, despite a 420km week!
