I think a similar philosophy has been adopted from the Dura-Ace crankset;
The Dura-Ace 9100 Crankset has been redesigned specifically for modern race bikes that are using disc brakes and shorter chainstays

You'll need plenty of that to make it look pretty.

No surprise... Ultegra/600 (as it was in earlier days) has closely followed Dura-Ace design for over 40 years. Why break tradition now? :)

is there real world pricing anywhere? where's the R8000-P crankset. That's the one I'm looking forward to - ultegra level quality and pricing + shimano level reliability in a powermeter...

Doubtful. If the pattern of the last few years is any guide, Shimano will do a press launch in a week or two with all the components details, but no pricing until the actual product launch in anothr couple of months.

I could be proven wrong, but I'd be doubtful of an Ultegra power crank at this stage - even the Dura-Ace one isn't out in the wild yet! Di2 took a couple of years to trickle down to Ultegra; I'd expect this to be similar.

The trickle-down effect always benefits Ultegra and 105.

Duck!, do you have any details on compatibility with and between previous Ultegra series?

Worth noting that Chivas Regal as a wet-lubricant is probably a bit generic and for better performance, look towards Bowmore, Talisker and one of my favourites, Bruichladdich.

As with R9100 Dura-Ace, there will be virtually complete interchangeability between this and existing 11-sp. components. The only bits that ideally should go together in either generation are the crank and front derailleur due to the different chainring spacing.

Don't worry about it. After he had drank the Chivas Regal and it's beautiful. :)

Shimano have just gone all green and eco thats all. Flip that DI2 groupset image upside down and you will see stuff that can be found in ocean rockpools.....
The "Ultegra" font also looks way better in the 9 o'clock position

Reckon they'll do a 48/32 or a 46/30 crank?

Unlikely, 'cos that wil dictate making a specific crank spider to suit, which defeats the purpose of the current crank design. If you want lower, get a MTB crank or a Tiagra triple.

Unlikely. The 110 BCD on the cranks limits them to a smallest tooth of 34. To go smaller they need a different solution - e.g. some manufacturers (Sugino and FSA) use a different BCD for the inner and outer ring. With Praxis, the chainring bolt screws straight onto the chainring.

The downside of these setups is that it makes you very locked in in terms of ring choices as no-one seems to be able to agree on what the best solution is.

I don't know why Shimano didn't think of super low compacts when they redesigned their cranks?

Not everyone who rides wants the wide Q of MTB cranks when they want low gearing. It wouldn't of been hard to design it to be able to mount a something as low as a 28-44

Surprisingly (or not) Canyon have just rolled out a sale this weekend. Of the 15 road bikes on sale, 13 are Ultegra 6800/70. Would be interested to know when the 2018 bikes come to retail later this year if reviewers would be able to notice any discernible difference between the generations. If not im sure there will be some bargains to be had

It's almost as if they've deliberately hit it with the ugly stick to try and make people want Dura Ace instead. The slanted logo looks... tacky, in a way.
