MTB'ing vs ROAD RIDING
Postby mountain tamer » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:34 pm
I was just interested in the demographic of this forum so I thought ide run a poll. I figure that around 3/4 of people here are predominantly road riders but I'm not sure. I understand that some of you are both, so just put what you would rather.
I searched forum and couldn't find one that had been done in the past ( but if it has been , just ignore this and bag me out)
cheers,
Ben

I like both of them! Waaaaaaah.
Two years ago it would have been MTB, for trail riding and a tourer. Now I've rediscovered the roadie and the dually sits forlorn and neglected
But I do love you baby. Really doooo!

For the commute, totally weather dependant: Roadie when it's good, MTB when it's sh1tty.

Even so I'm usually giving the skinny tyred road bike riding (girlie-boys?) a run for their money or leaving them in my sweat wake.
So what does that make me - apart from the obvious opinionated bastard. - I really don't dislike road bikes or riders, it's just a rival thing.

Funny, but that's the opposite to how feel. On the MTB, the destination is the muddy track, and you're on it for the whole ride. The challenge is you against the track.rob e wrote:Road bikes take you places.......MTB's take you down muddy tracks.
On the road, you're on the way somewhere, and then you go home once you've been there. All the while being targeted by loonies in smoke-boxes and fighting bloody headwinds ...
I do love my 'bent, but given the choice for a half-day ride, I'm getting dirty and reliving my teenage years!
Cheers,
Graeme

the secret is getting out on the road early morning (weekends) before the wind and bogans...6am is a sensational time of day If i was commuting and fighitng the traffic depending the route i might use the MTB.......jumping gutters, riding on footpaths etcKalgrm wrote:

Oh, I do that, but this poll is about a half day ride. Bogans and headwinds only sleep for so long .... But both stay away from single track all day. I've been riding on roads for 25 years, but riding the MTB reinvigorated my life. I really do feel like a kid again when I'm on the dirt.rob e wrote:the secret is getting out on the road early morning (weekends) before the wind and bogans...6am is a sensational time of day
Tried MTB riding at dawn? Sensational! Better still, single track at night!
Cheers,
Graeme

what does the poll question say rob??Graeme - no mention of 1/2 day in the OP.
rob e wrote:i have both but prefer the road bike......there is nothing better than doing 40-45km/h on smooth hotmix with the wind at your back (or descending at 60kmh+)early on a Sunday morning when everyone else is asleep Its almost like flying....you dont get that experience on an MTB, well i dont anyway. Road bikes take you places.......MTB's take you down muddy tracks.
Look at toolongleg's track in the alps i Reckon you could get to 60+ on that baby
I prefer your enemies on the trail more (Pain+the track)
Rather than ( Pain+stupid car drivers+glass+potholes+traffic lights+headwind)
