MTB'ing vs ROAD RIDING

Postby mountain tamer » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:34 pm

Hi guys,

I was just interested in the demographic of this forum so I thought ide run a poll. I figure that around 3/4 of people here are predominantly road riders but I'm not sure. I understand that some of you are both, so just put what you would rather.

I searched forum and couldn't find one that had been done in the past ( but if it has been , just ignore this and bag me out)

cheers,

Ben

I took my flat-bar roadie through some mtb tracks yesterday.... handled the sand better than i thought it would, and the rocks didn't seem to worry it much... (28mm detonators + R500 wheelset)

What does that make me? :P

I can't vote. Not eligible because............

I like both of them! Waaaaaaah.

Two years ago it would have been MTB, for trail riding and a tourer. Now I've rediscovered the roadie and the dually sits forlorn and neglected

But I do love you baby. Really doooo! :)

Well Pete, I guess you must answer road ride if you haven't touched the dirty one for a while. You'd rather ride on the road.

Cheers,
Graeme

For recreation, totally mood dependant: Do I want it quick or dirty? Maybe a CX bike...

For the commute, totally weather dependant: Roadie when it's good, MTB when it's sh1tty.

Hmmmm a 1/2 day ride

Definitely the roadie and in close proximity to a couple of places to get my caffeine fix.

I will say mtb because it has been a long time since I had a mtb ride (or a non cracked mtb for that matter!)...when I get my new frame I will be heading to here which is 90km away for a week of heaven...but it might have to wait till after winter now!.

Definitely a mountain biker, though I commute to East Sydney a couple of times a week on her with my fat low pressure knobblies (2.5" Kendas).
Even so I'm usually giving the skinny tyred road bike riding (girlie-boys?) :P a run for their money or leaving them in my sweat wake.
So what does that make me - apart from the obvious opinionated bastard. - I really don't dislike road bikes or riders, it's just a rival thing. :)
Thanks heaps.

I had to put down road bike since I don't have a MTB atm :) Also I'd have to drive somewhere to get a real MTB ride in and that's not going to happen. When I finally move into the house we're building out in the bush then this might change (and i'll get a MTB)!

Road all the way, I like the speed (not that I'm that fast  ) Love going down hills fast, when I can find them. :?

i have both but prefer the road bike......there is nothing better than doing 40-45km/h on smooth hotmix with the wind at your back (or descending at 60kmh+)early on a Sunday morning when everyone else is asleep 8) Its almost like flying....you dont get that experience on an MTB, well i dont anyway. Road bikes take you places.......MTB's take you down muddy tracks.

I do like riding the MTB in the rain though 8)

Funny, but that's the opposite to how feel. On the MTB, the destination is the muddy track, and you're on it for the whole ride. The challenge is you against the track.

On the road, you're on the way somewhere, and then you go home once you've been there. All the while being targeted by loonies in smoke-boxes and fighting bloody headwinds ...

I do love my 'bent, but given the choice for a half-day ride, I'm getting dirty and reliving my teenage years! 8)

Cheers,
Graeme

the secret is getting out on the road early morning (weekends) before the wind and bogans...6am is a sensational time of day :P If i was commuting and fighitng the traffic depending the route i might use the MTB.......jumping gutters, riding on footpaths etc

Oh, I do that, but this poll is about a half day ride. Bogans and headwinds only sleep for so long .... :) But both stay away from single track all day. I've been riding on roads for 25 years, but riding the MTB reinvigorated my life. I really do feel like a kid again when I'm on the dirt.

Tried MTB riding at dawn? Sensational! Better still, single track at night!

Cheers,
Graeme

Hi Graeme,

At the risk of sounding ignorant... Whats a 'bent? Is it a term for a type of bike?

Cheers,
Mark

Look at toolongleg's track in the alps i Reckon you could get to 60+ on that baby

I prefer your enemies on the trail more (Pain+the track)

Rather than ( Pain+stupid car drivers+glass+potholes+traffic lights+headwind)
