O-bikes are a terrorist threat...

Forgive me for stooping so low as to read this poor excuse for a newspaper.

After having a rant about how the o-bikes are cluttering up the place Miranda Devine then goes on to quote Daniel Lewkovitz from some obscure security company who claims "unattended bikes have previously used as bombs in a large number of terrorist attacks" overseas.

"The hollow frame and pannier of a bike provides substantial space for explosives and shrapnel to be packed and the metal bicycle itself adds further fragmentation which could cause injury."

Can't say I've heard of any bike bombs, heard about plenty of car bombs though.

What about the hollow space that makes up my car boot?

Let alone the hollow space between the author's ears.

I recall a newspaper article about 12 months back where a council member was concerned about the terrorist potential posed by frosted advertisements plastered on bus windows. The premise was that the people inside the bus could be experiencing a terrorist operation and people outside the bus, being unable to see through due to the said window advertisements, would be none the wiser.

Its like there are people who have risen in power and influence that are acutely aware of their incompetence and try to reassure the masses by publicly making statements that they imagine an intelligent, responsible and capable person might say.

I have heard of motorcycle bombs too. :?

However ... bombs attached to people seam to be much more of a concern. I recommend that Miranda Devine, Daniel Lewkovitz etc keep themselves safe by remaining in isolation from the rest of humanity. Maybe they already are and that is why they think such things?

So we should ban people from the street who aren't naked, in case they are concealing bombs

If every bike is potentially a bomb ready to go off, that should encourage motorists to give lots of space when passing.

Whether it's a bike or a frosted window - all used as excuses that result in empowering politicians and authorities while taking away from society.

Ross, you shouldn't have been reading that rubbish, but on the other hand, Miranda Devine's role is to provoke people and unfortunately she creates 'value' for herself and her publication this way.

It is a waste of time commenting, writing to the editor is perhaps just as futile news@dailytelegraph.com.au Maybe it is up to the Betoota Advocate to hold up some mirrors.

It is a common enough thing in Afghanistan, been done in Israel too, probably elsewhere if you wanted to look into it. No realistic threat to Australians though. Some terrorist wants to kill a bunch of Australians they just need to drive a car up a pedestrian mall, no special equipment or knowledge needed.
That newspaper is not frequently referred to as the Terrorgraph for nothing

Until Miranda Devine goes commando (in lieu of the documented terrorist threat of underpants), no one should take her seriously
