Well I'll be buggered....
Postby gorilla monsoon » Wed Nov 08, 2017 10:37 am
Out for a ride t'other day after the bike had its jillion dollar, six-monthly service, and heard a strange metallic scraping sound from somewhere around the chainrings/bottom bracket area.
Stopped pedalling, noise went away. Started pedalling, noise came back.
Next day, same thing. Thought I better ring the repair shop and make a big noise about how useless they were for not finding and fixing the problem, etc, etc.
Before making the call though I put the bike on the stand and turned the pedals by hand. No noise. Faster. No noise. So I sat quietly with a cup of coffee and looked at the bike while thinking about what I was dealing with.
Finished the coffee, went to the tool shelf, grabbed the sewing machine oil, put a drop on the pedal clip-in mechanisms and then rubbed a drop of oil over the cleats.
Next day? No noise. Sometimes the fix just takes a bit of lateral thinking.

When I give my bike it's semi-regular wash and drivetrain clean, I put a small spray of oil onto my pedals for the same reason

Had the same thing...clicking noise when pedalling, sounded like a creaking bottom bracket.
Nope...mechanic sprayed teflon on the metal plates on my spd-sl pedals, and the clicking vanished!

It is rather odd that we still unthinkingly use this expression.gorilla monsoon wrote:Your mind, sir, is in the gutter.fat and old wrote:The same sex marriage vote is about to be closed, and you come up with this thread title??? I choose to be offended!!!!

The prospect of GM being buggered is not one I really want to contemplate.

Ron K, see me on a Sunday morning after a long ride and the final 1km uphill run to my back gate and you will know the meaning of the word as I (and the Oxford Dictionary of English) expressed it, not the derogatory form you apparently are hinting at.
