2018 - Imperial 160km & Metric 100km Centuries

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Dec 22, 2017 10:49 pm

This is the 2018 thread to share your plans and achievements for reaching a 100km Metric Century ride and a 160km (100 mile) Imperial Century.

Share direct links to your ride on Strava and tell us how easy or hard it is to smash out the k's. Make sure you join the Australian Cycles Forums Strava Group.

At the end of the year, tally up your metric and imperial centuries to see who is the maddest lad or lass of the bunch.

Remember, 99.8km is not 100km, so if you have to do a few laps of the block... then that's what you have to do to be champ.

Go the distance!

Happy to start this one off.

A 128k/1600m^ to start the year. Youngish kids so went to bed after The Karate Kid  so was able to get an early start. Funny when you ride past all of the post apocalypse zombies at 4:30am ha ha.

I will admit that it was meant to be an Imperial with 2k^ but it was just soooooo hot.

The heat and humidity is shocking at the moment. Will be a while before i'm doing centuries again but all in good time :-)

Any time I am on a ride and look to be finishing within 10 km of the 100, I go round the block to make it :)
Sometimes I do that in the 80's as well :P

I got one today. It was warm and windy with cramping from 80 km. Got a call from the bride at 90 km to see when I would be home and she had the nerve to ask me if I wanted her to pick me up!

102.2 km with 1,345 meters of climbing. Sea to Summit in Sadelaide.

My first century today! 102.9km. My strategy- ride 50km out. Mrs Wing doesn't answer her phone during her weekend sleep-in, so little option but riding the 50km home. And yep, I'd done a 100km ride before she was out of bed!

Got me another one today. Second one in a week and I hope to get a third next Friday, along with 10,000 other riders in Adelaide. Rode a few km with some of the FDJ Team.

3rd metric for the year (108klm & 1300m elevation). Was another aborted Imperial (was also meant to have another 700+m of up) but a sick 6yo left me with little sleep and a whole lotta guilt about not being at home...cut the ride short as a result....and the little bugger seems fine today ha ha

Well, a metric 100km yesterday in the pretty hot and humid conditions, but no imperial centuries this year as yet.

Had to ride to bunch with SWMBO's family which was 70k, bit of faffing about made it 80. Not sure when I will next get the time for a decent ride, so snuck in an extra 20 to make it an even 100. Got to race a steam train for the last 10 k which was fun, especially as I won.

Another metric century done today, but the mid week rides were all around the 90km mark, those were fast rides.

First 100k for the year today, a touch over 4hrs so lots of improvement needed.

Did my second ever metric century, and first for the year on the 27th Jan after a group ride fell through (everyone was recovering from Australia Day I think)

It was mid 20's and 92% humidity when I started the ride, and 36° at the end of it

First metric century of the year today (102km), trying to get some miles in before the Kalamunda 100 hills ride at the end of the month. Today highlighted that I need to add more fuel to my body if I want to keep it working :)

The Imperial is still eluding me for 2018.

Finished at 120k on Sunday after some early morning delays with riding buddies (a flat with one and could not find the another ) then we had the realisation that the SEQ heatwave was actually going to be hot    5' metrics ytd.

Maybe next week...

Garmin froze (1 month old 820) when I saved the ride...not a trace to be found...did it ever happen???

Nicely done. :)

I did 128km yesterday, and 100km today, both 31 average.

Yesterday had a garmin fail, didn't realise auto pause was off on the new Edge 520 I'm using. So stopped at a crossing (off road) and adjusting settings (struggling with no touch screen) and all the while my average has gone from 37.5km/h to 22km/h. Got it back to 31 though.

Gotta love technology, my Garmin refused to even turn on for over an hour this afternoon when i got home.

Had a big ride today including a near 11km dirt climb at 5% average, I was pretty well toasted by the time I got back to the start, but I was on 90kms... This thread was the number one thing that got me to crawl the extra 10k

Only my first for the year last Saturday.
121.5 with 1323 up.
Did it too easy, so time to up the anti and do a century in the mountains.
