Cycle touring Brisbane to Adelaide

Postby shonniebonnie » Thu Jan 18, 2018 9:30 am

Hi, I am planning to cycle from Brisbane to Adelaide in June-July this year, camping on route etc. I want to take the inland routes and was hoping to recreate an old family journey we used to make each year stopping Tamworth, West Wylong, Mildura. However, this was all on the highways - New England, National and Newell. I believe these are best avoided, so maybe a parallel course? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am on a touring bike. Thanks!

Welcome aboard shonniebonnie. I think we have talked about this before on FB.

It's difficult to plan a route to entirely avoid the major highways and pass through the places you want to visit. It depends on how far you are will to go out of your way.

This route might work for you.

Watch out for buses when you get to Adelaide, especially around the CBD area. It's not they are agressive, it's just there are so many of them.

And the generally crappy road surface on most of Adelaide's roads. Lots of patches and cracks, and those manhole draincovers. Thousands of those.
