Knitted shoes?! Giro Empire E70 knit

Postby Isaac199 » Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:26 pm

Hi! Does anyone have thoughts on knitted cycling footwear, eg the Giro Empires? Ive not seen any review online, nor heard anyone talk about it. I'm just wondering if the material is robust/durable?

I saw them when they were launched and spoke to one of the designers.

Essentially these are warm weather shoes and are breathable. While they look knitted, they are robust / durable and are solid strands so don't soak moisture. I haven't tried them so can't share a verdict but will reach out and ask. If it proceeds, could take a while.

Giro are not the only brand with a weave - Fizik also have a knit shoe (INFINITO R1 KNIT) which is relatively similar in format but has more solid surfaces than the Giro.

Looks interesting, could use a MTB set for spin classes

I don't know about these shoes, but they've had knitted football boots for a while now. They made a bit of an impact at the 2014 World Cup. Footballers seem to like them, and they put a lot more stress on their shoes than cyclists do, so they must be robust enough.

Now that they have been out for a while, I'm interested in whether these are worth getting? Anyone own or have experience with them?

I've had a set for the last couple of years and like them. Only do about 100km a week in them and they're comfortable, although the toe box is a bit small but they have stretched.
If you're riding in winter, get some covers. Your feet will get wet and cold.
