New Shimano 105 R7000 groupset

*edit* by the way, it's a shame that lever design is stuck with the concept that it must be clamped to a traditional drop bar. There would be so much scope for elegance and ergonomic benefits if the two were combined, and the benefits of carbon fibre manufacture (as opposed to tube bending) were fully utilised. Bolt-on, flat mount hoods. Hydraulics and/or mechanisms hidden inside the bar. Internal batteries. etc.

Top end is all going electronic anyway so no shift mechanism just buttons of some style (probably still via lever deflection, but just the one lever)
And disk means the levers can be smaller and weaker because it's single finger stuff.

So that means levers are a simpler mechanism and perhaps will evolve into a design where the structural protrusion is a seperate piece and the small lever mech bolts onto that.

When would we start seeing this on new bikes? Will they show up on the 2019 models? Looking for a new bike but if its going to have an updated groupset it might be worth the wait

Just get a Tiagra/Claris or even clearance 5800 and wear it out and then R7000 full groupset when it goes on sale for $600
Cheaper than the OEM markup to jump up to full 105, which probably won't even be full 105 it will have cheaper brakes and cassette and chain stuff substituted in.

Might have missed it but price range? I have a commuter running 5700 that is perfect for this.

Was in a shop today and the owner said there was 'no doubt they will be building up 2019 models as we speak with R7000 for shipping later this year' - reference was to Cannondales, specifically, but it would apply across the brands I'm sure.

Like some others, I have my frame colour scheme preferences. At the moment my favourite frame comes as a Sora build. Maybe later this year I'll look for a used one to strip and build up with the new R7000.

This timing is perfect for me - I was already looking at refreshing my bikes for road/cx/bikepacking use (still not sure where the split will be for two bikes - combine road & CX, or CX & bikepacking?), and my wife suggested that should would like to move from her current flat bar bike to a drop bar one in the medium term. Thru axles and hydro brakes across the board!
