Puncture repair stickers

Postby BugsBunny » Tue May 08, 2018 3:30 pm

Is there such a thing as a puncture repair sticker that you can stick on the OUTSIDE of the tire for a temporary get-home fix? I'm guessing some thick rubbering patch would do the trick.

Reason I ask is because I'm finally taking the plunge to go with tubeless but the tire is an absolute XXXXX to get on or off. So swapping a tube roadside is near impossible. Whilst I plan to use some Stan's sealant, which should in theory deal with most punctures, I was thinking as a backup - some stick-on tape that would get me home slowly at least.

What PSI are you running?

(The real answer is to change your tyres to something sensible that you can get on-and-off your wheels)

Yes Giant have some

It's for a slash and intended to just limp home and then full tyre replacement.
Don't know how well it works.

For plain holes which are too big to liquid seal there are worm plug kits. Giant have them too, though there are much better on the market.

Other method is just to carry a tube, which helps your tubed buddies in a multiple puncture situation too.
Some cut up inner tube and plastic to cover a gash and then put tube in there.
A struggle getting tubeless tyres on and off, they tend to be very tight fit. But once on it doesn't need the compressor since tube is sealing as usual.

Thanks Jmuzz

That first one you mentioned is exactly what I had imagined and fits my needs perfectly. I reckon you would be on your way in under 5 min with this method.

It's a tad pricey (AUD$22 retail) so will try and see if there are cheaper variants.

Indeed. Neat little item. There's got to be other applications for that. I wonder if the secret sauce is the "glue"?

That was my first thought with the "external patch" idea. But better than walking home I suppose!

Interesting how the video mentions to pump it to the minimum tire pressure. I assume that's so the patch doesn't leak air and a side benefit would be the lumpiness should be reduced.
